MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
So we've got virgin media broadband, all well and good-get 10mbps download speeds pretty consistently BUT when it comes to loading pages, specifically ones with lots of images (google image search, flickr etc) it is really slow, and occasionally hangs?! As anyone else had this problem/ know the fix? On a mac using safari, but also affects the pc users in the house aswell...Have entered open DNS servers into the network utilities bit, which seems to have helped slightly but its still not actually that good.
specifically ones with lots of images

Your download speed may well be 10Mbps but upload speeds are typically much slower, probably less than 1MBps. You could try www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk to check your actual speeds.

High latency perhaps? If you ping a local website, what response times are you getting? (Start / Run / cmd / ping www.bbc.co.uk) (EDIT: STW adds 'http://' on this line - ignore it, it's just 'ping www etc')

Several computers - is one of them running bittorrent constantly?
Virus / malware battering your connection?

Noones runnnig bittorrent and even when its just one of us using it, its still slow. Distance away from router
has no impact on the speed either.
Also have NO idea what steve g and cynical are on about...
Also on Virgin Media 10Mb

Judging by the varying ping speeds it sounds like congestion somewhere on the service. There's probably too many people contending your service. You could, however, try changing the MTU on your router as that can make a difference in cases like this.
