Car is due an interim service apparently. Yes it will be a year old but has currently only done 6500 miles so that' the one. However said interim service basically consists of a wash and Hoover, top up of any fluids and a quick look round. Have i got to part with 80 quid for this privelige to keep my warranty?

Don’t they change the oil and filter?

I thought interrim services were because some stuff doesn't need changing as much as other stuff.  It thikn interrim services should still be an oil change which is the main thing.

I'd assume that'd include oil + filter as well.  Consider yourself lucky.. over here in Canada oil changes happen every 3-6 months / 6000km!!  Although I know little about cars but perhaps oil for working at -30C is different to oil for +30C.

Should be an oil change.

If no oil change TS a swizz.

Some people/dealers don't seem to understand it's miles or time based which ever comes first ....not miles or time based optional to which ever suits your pocket.

I’d want that doing regardless.

yes you need to get it done.

no, you don’t need to use the main dealer, any decent mechanic will be fine, but you want the oil and filter done as a minimum. I assume you check the other fluids regularly.

If it doesn't involve an oil change don't do it.

I do lowish mileages so used to get an annual oil change and a bi annual full service.

My current car tells me when stuff needs doing based on mileage/driving style/etc so it's a bit different.

Your engines also seem to last exponentially longer than ours.....

Can you not Google for your car & "interim service" and see what it involves?

£80 for a interim dealer service?

Is this a northern thing?

I wish I knew when mine was.

I had a major service in July.  In September an interim service warming arrived- I'd done 600 miles.  Checked all the fluids manually and ignored is a superseded.

Its still on, and should have presumably been reset to another date by BMW I'd suggest.

It's a lease car. Kia 1.7tdi engine. And no there's no oil and filter in that price. They do apparently "clean" the brakes though 🤔. If only cars came with a service book these days instead of a digital service record!!!

Honest John has a thing about this - apparently much of Asia has roadside oil change wallahs. Dirt cheap, 10min swap of oil for fresh, new branded stuff. Cost is much lower than uk, and they don't do much else, but that's ok as engines on fresh oil run for longer and parts don't wear out so quickly these days etc. He seems to think interim 'service' is a scam....

Honest John seems like a website set up to scare the shit out of you into signing up for one of the third part warrenty services....

Every time I read an article on there it's always ended with something along the lines of "and these trusted warenty partners car help ease the cost of unexpected repairs "

If you read the car owner's reports on Honest John, you'd never ever buy another vehicle again.

So true Jamie... Bit like if you read MBR reviews you won't buy a bike that isn't a specilized ever again.
