Sorry Angry Birds Seasons is were it's at. Seriously that looks really good.

It's quite short - basically you play repeating generations returning to the same castle to try and defeat the "God King" - but the swordplay is pretty compelling and more levels plus multiplayer are on their way.
The Christmas version of Angry Birds is a bit rubbish IMO.
What else is out there that's recent and good?

OK, it's not "recent" infact it's very old.. but the reworked monkey Island 2 on ipad is *excellent*.

Take it you've tried "Cut The Rope"? (I just got 3 stars on all the Cosmic Box levels the other day).
For something a bit different try PicGrid (there is a Lite version)

I've been playing Pocket Legends on Android recently - it's out on iPhone too. It's like World of Warcraft in your pocket.
I hate 'rat on a skateboard' it's absoulte rubbish but I can't stop trying to beat my score. I like 'high noon' and 'real racing' but I soon got bored of the latter.
That really is quite good.
For anyone that is playing it: I got to the alternate ending with my 3rd Bloodline.
But I'm still a way off being able to kill the git.
[b]Update[/b]: Not sure if anyone else is playing this (hint: you should be!) but they just put out a new update today: new weapons and armour, plus a new opponent and a festive Santa helm! Multiplayer has been promised fir the new year sometime.
I did try it, but not my sort of thing.

Dammed good on the Fondle Slab as you can do all the sword swipe combo's in one corner of the screen and see all of the action.
Pretty much where you are GrahamS. It's a fun distraction.
