Sir Ranulph Fiennes has pulled out of an expedition across Antarctica in winter because of severe frostbite...
Sir Ranulph's team mate Ian Prickett: "Fingers crossed it improves quickly - we could be in for a week, we could be in for another day" 😀

toe curlingly bad.
oh, hang on.
I genuinely LOLed at this bit at the end....
This is not the first time the explorer has experienced frostbite. In 2000, he lost the fingers on his left hand during an unaided attempt to reach the North Pole. When he returned to the UK, he was told he would have to wait several months before they could be amputated to allow the partially damaged tissue to heal. But he decided to do the job himself and carried out the amputations using a fretsaw.
on a scale of 1 to 10 how made must it be for RF to stop..........12?
how about James Cracknell VS Eddie Izzard in a game of knuckles- a fight to the death.
I have read his books and am amazed by some of the bad decisions he has made (like burying your warmest sleeping bag to save weight and then nearly freezing) but "He used his bare hands to fix a ski binding in temperatures around -30C." Really? seems a pretty bad idea!
He does seem to operate in that classic British 'heroically overcoming obstacles that you created yourself' sort of way.
Impressively intrepid but slightly dim.
