These are a staple part of my diet now. I normally just put a pinch of salt and cumin powder in the mix but wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

Cheers,

BB (happy and slim iDave eater)

Any spice. Chilli powder, cumin, coriander, garam masala, paprika all work well.

Where are you getting gram flour from? I can't seem to find it in any of the supermarkets.

They sell it at Tesco and Waitrose. In the world food section.

I get mine from a local asian supply shop, branded as VIRANI if that helps at all.

Try the ethnic food section rather than the normal flour location

Actually, come to think about it Mike... it's in the same place as the quinoa.

Maybe it's just out northern supermarkets 🙂 No sign of it in Asda or Morrisons with either the flour, world foods, dried beans or gluten free sections.

Mind, I couldn't find miso paste in there either, so had to go to Tesco.

I get my gram flour from Waitrose too.

Flavour mine with a teaspoon or so of ground corriander and a good pinch of garam masala per batch.

Does anyone know how long it lasts (in a sealed tupperware box)? I bought some about 6 months ago, tried the flatbreads once (with no added flavouring and I slightly burnt them) and hated them. I'm thinking I should give them another shot though but do I need to sling what I have or does flour keep ages?

As long as it is still dry, should be fine. If it smells musty, bin it.

I found I had to use way more water than recommended, and you only just need to cook them through. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes, stir, and use.

Gram flour pancakes work well too.

Add an egg?
Mix in some olive oil.
Get a 6" pan for cooking them in?

Result! Two perfect flatbreads accompanying spicy chickpea and carrot soup, two in the fridge for later. 🙂

Edit - lightly flavoured with caraway seeds, nom, nom.
