DTF - WTF, you only built 50 miles of dry stone wall in a day? That's quite disappointing....

I havent even built the wall yet. The 50miles was about the distance I covered from going up the fells and bringing the stone down to where I need it. Its a big job is this one, thats why I was working a weekend.

My day off the diet today, I hope this thing about eating loads on the off day works.

I feel crap, feel like i've put a stone on today, went out on the bike earlier and went crap too?

If it's a day off the diet do we still have the 30g of carbs pre and per hour during the ride?

God I wish I could diet. Got to get 7lbs off in three weeks, have gone really flabby since I got back from hols at the end of April but the amount of fruit I eat I don't think I get by on this. Can't I just have fruit to? Why is it bad?

@ emma82
You've read the thread.
You've seen the evidence.
And you're still asking questions. ๐Ÿ™„
Personally I don't think fruit is bad, but it doesn't fit with the iDave diet/lifestyle.
Possibly you could look at the other thngs you're eating and see what changes you could make. For a start substitute all pasta and rice, choosing instead lentils or beans, cook using olive oil, no bread and look to make all meals at home rather than buying pre-cooked, in other words being sensible.

I would strongly recommend you give iDave's diet a go, in 3 weeks you will see a difference, that I will stake my reputation on... ๐Ÿ˜‰
It's only 3 weeks, what have you got to lose?

I never used to experience any of the ill effects people talk about from sugar or carbs but now I do

After Saturday, I think I understand what that must be like.
I just felt strangely uncomfortable.
I'm gonna have to rethink the food for day-off.
Maximum naughtyness, minimal bulk.
Chips are definately in next Saturday, as may be pizza and......Take away !
๐Ÿ˜ฏ

But Lordy, no sooner than next Saturday, please.

What about sweet potatoes? Are they iCompliant?

And does anyone have a decent flatbread recipe? Tried a couple yesterday but they just came out like nutty cardboard.

...but I was fully dressed ready to ride to work and wearing a rucksack... plus holding my mountain bike ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'll never completely do the diet, having discovered that I'm pretty close to Lance's lowest weight

Yeti.. how many times.. weight is not the important value...

Possibly a shade under 84kg this morning, will see how it goes. Didn't ride in though, stiff tired legs. Will do something tonight off the bike I think.

EDIT googled for zinc + fructose + insulin. Bit technical for me I think!

I'm with you on the spice thing Dave - but I was referring more to a method of prepping/cooking - as opposed to the flavouring/seasoning. Online stuff said to make them like pancakes, but they just didn't come out right. Ta

Well depends what you are doing.

Body fat % would be more appropriate. Or even just power/strength to weight ratio.

Well I'm not getting any 'weeker' and I'm not buying one of your fancy power meter things.

I'm just going to add a couple of Lance's workouts to my current routine.

Lance's stats do seem to go against the other riders though.. don't you think?

surely the way to measure is how many rolls of fat your belly makes when you sit down...

You don't need to. Just find a hill climb time trial, that'll encompass many relevant stats in one test ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeti, there's a website for another AS challenge (just the hill bit) that if you time it and put your time on the website, it'll work out your power. Not sure how accurate it is, but worth a go. Perhaps not for all 31 though! ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, given it is like winter here, i would imagine we'll have a howling headwind, be in full winter gear and soaked so maybe its not the best option!

In other news, my power has come back finally *punches air in delight* and i'm looking forward to some speedwork and hill reps tomorrow night. 8)

*goes to catch up on the rest of the thread in an attempt not to eat the creme egg in my bag* ๐Ÿ˜•

Pah, Scotland's always sunny when I've been there.

Good news on the power Dirty... don't go overdoing it this week though!

Just been looking at a hill climb website... the guy looks ill! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I'm not sure they're that accurate. I thought he was around 70-72kg for most of his tour wins?

Don't forget big mig.. He was around 80kg but could ride with some of the best climbers in the tour because of his massive power output

Oh, while on the subject of flatbread...

Allow me to impart a word to the wise.

You might not want to keep your gram flour in the same type of container as your mustard powder.....

You'll probably win the dirt stuff due to my time off the mtb (though i gave mustard a good run for his money on my ht yesterday ๐Ÿ˜† ) but there's other challenges too!

So what about condiments? Tomato sauce and salad cream are presumably bad but are they bad enough that they negate he point of avoiding carbs in the first place? I presume mayo is OK as it's mostly fat?

Dunno.. I eat ketchup on my eggs as that's what allows me to eat them in the first place ๐Ÿ™‚

1) What is AS?

2) I doubt the website will be very accurate for the reasons you go into....weather, altitude, road surface, how you're feeling etc.

FW.

Its about low GI. so check out the GI rating for said condiments.
Low is GO
Medium and High is NO.

However, it seems the theme that one avoids condiments with sugar in them, and IIRC, ketchup has a fair bit of sugar in it.

All this, of course, with respect to the day off where you can drink the stuff if thats your bag.

I've found that making my own dressing/sauces has been the key to unlocking the beans/pulses/salads.

STW has become quite a collection of food ideas, albeit that one will now need to do a fair bit of searching and reading.
