My girlfriend and I are doing the iDave diet, it's been working pretty well - I've lost a stone, she's 1.5 stone down.

We're both really missing bread though, but think I've finally cracked an iDave safe bread recipe using Besan (Gram) flour - is made from chickpeas, can get it in Tescos.

Couldn't find one online - so here's mine - No wheat, sugar or dairy in sight.

No real idea on quantities cos I never measure anything, so below is approx:

500g of gram flour
1 teaspoon of salt
2 heaped teaspoons of baking powder
5 dessert spoons of olive oil
water

I also added onion and garlic powder, some tomato puree and chopped spring onions.

Basically mix it all up, keep adding water til it resembles bread dough.

Chuck it in a tin, I lined mine with greaseproof, then cover the tin with tin foil loosely to stop it drying out. I also put a tin full of water underneath, so it kinda steam bakes and keeps it from drying out.

Bake on high for about 20 mins, at which point it looks and feels cooked but a bit pale, then remove the cover and bake for another 5 mins til it goes crispy on top.

I'm still waiting for my bread tin to arrive from t'internet - would look a lot better if loaf shaped, but tastes pretty good - might help anyone who's on the same diet though.

Just realised I missed an opportunity to do some "accidental" reflecto-porn in the kettle - will remember next time!

Looks a bit like soda bread

Yeah, tastes pretty similar although a bit drier - chickpea bread is quite dry to eat, so will need extra tomato / whatever to compensate in sandwiches. It's more the bread texture that I missed though.

Maybe chucking an egg in before the water would add a bit more moisture.

Oh and I've also tried roughly same recipe with a yeast sachet instead of baking powder, but it hardly rises.
