evening...
after 4 months sat on my arse after having 2 mental breakdowns i am now starting to feel the itching need to get out there again. i've put on a stone and a half and my drinking has got a little out of control so i am changing my diet and knocking having bottles of spirits in the house on the head, maybe 1-2 beers on a weekend max. i am also going to start back at the gym on a referral from the DR, fix both bikes and start riding again...
but here's the rub... i need a challenge, something to aim for. something i can get my teeth into to train as hard as i can (i know a lot about training for events so i wont go balls out to start with as i am waaaay too unfit)
so the question is, what is good in the off road calendar for the new year. i have done the hellrunner events and helly hanson off road triathlons so know whats involved. is there anything people would recommend? [edit] forgot to add southern england for preference
sorry for the long post
cheers
Have you looked at the Human Race series of events? They include trail runs, as well as duathlons. Plus, they have different distances so you can build up.
Gorrick winter series, four hours of fun or think Evans ride it in biggie hill is coming up.
Google "rough runner" - it looks ace.
+1 for the Gorrick Brass Monkey's endurance series. Really good courses imo.

Seconding this. Well-organised events although they're not cheap.
thanks for the suggestions, will look into those
The Endurance Life Coastal Trail series looks good. There's a few events around southern England, with options for half marathon/marathon/ultra. http://www.endurancelife.com/event-new.asp?series=87
