I've found Vick First Defence works pretty well if you use it as soon as you get that nasty feeling in the back of your nasal passage, then plenty of sleep and drink plenty of water.

Sleep, drink, eat.

If you eat a balanced diet then vitamins will be no use (IMO). Much to my wife's chagrin when I refuse to eat the bloody things.

I agree with sofatester here - sleep and fluids being the important two. If you feel crap then maybe some paracetamol may help take the edge off any temperature.

Wasn't there an article on this in Singletrack a while back?

IIRC it said take VitC, Zinc, Ecinacea, Cod Liver Oil, and Garlic supplements to address either speed of recovery, or to replace elements that are depleted by the cold itself.

Vitamin C (1000%RDA)

I thought the body was unable to process that amount of Vit C and it just gets pissed out without any positive benefits?

Kill it with alcohol. Frozen vodka with lemon juice. Who knows if it works but you will feel a lot better and WTH, it's not like you are going to work are you ? Then sleep for a good 12 hours. And take the next day off too.

Just carry on as usual. It'll only get you down if you let it. Keep busy and you won't have time to feel ill.

It was Linus Pauling that was convinced that Vitamin c could cure cancer, colds and whatever else you what.

mastiles - probably but a combination of that and being self employed have meant that i've not really had a cold bad enough to keep me away from work in about 10 years

That stuff is EVIL! It's like getting punched in the nose and having a firework shot up your nasal cavity at the same time. Brought my cold on double quick last time I took it!
I usually take Berocca. Whether it gets rid of the cold quicker or not is anyone's guess.

I like Boots Cold & Flu Day Comfort Capsules make me feel a lot better. I think they're the same as Day Nurse capsules.

Paracetamol and a bit of buck-you-uppo that stops you feeling miserable and lets you get on with stuff.

And curry.
