i am wanting to build a berm in a sandstone area
what is the best way ?
You'll be needing plenty of big ass rocks for a base then smaller ones for infill and something more like hardcore to cover that.
If you want a constant radius then put a stake in and use a piece of string like a compass for your arc. Or just do it by eye.
Where is it? (email in profile if you want to keep it quiet)
I see your local, how about going to a trailbuilding day with SingletrAction
at Stainburn/Dalby/Buck Woods
http://www.singletraction.co.uk/
or Gisburn? Plus Tony Lund is looking to sort out a group for Lee Quarry, etc.
Its good fun and you never know how much you might learn.
small tip: if its on a steep downhil with no pushup/rideup nearby, cut small footholds/steps into the top of the berm and it will encourage the groms pushing their bikes up to put their feet in the steps and wheel their bike in the berm, rather than trashing the riding surface scrambling back up it.
Also consider drainage. A mint berm is no good when its full of water or porridge consistency mud. 🙁
Wassell of 'youtube honda rn02 prototype frame' fame did both above things with a couple in our local woods and they are ace.
