[Closed] How do I copy and paste on an iPad?

I think your problem is more that copy and paste is crap on iOS, especially between apps.

You can do it,

It's like "copy" but in reverse..

Hold finger in the URL address bar and you should get the text highlight in blue, then the option to paste should indeed come up..

At least it does on mine, I've just done it to check, and yup.. it works.

I have got the copy working but when I try to paste it don't seem to let me.

I touch the screen first time and the keyboard appears. I touch it again and just get a little blue circle.

Ok, so it's a little complex, we understand, took me about 0.00000006 of a second to work it out 😆

If you touch the screen "normally" a big blue box comes up and the options copy/select/select all come up, give the one you want a touch..
ohhhh "touch me".

Then, then wherever you want to paste the item, press on the screen and I get a small magnifying circle show itself, then I get an option to paste..

Now then iWCA, if you are copying an address or URL, do the same thing only do it (ohhh errr) in the URL address bar..

i(cough) assure you this is the only way it works.

The reason you are getting the keypad up is probably you are tapping twice perhaps, maybe you hit the home key and it's gone back to the search menu.. dunno, not there over your shoulder.

HTH, if it doesn't, feel free to use your new iPad as a coaster/frizbie/table leg correction device/1970's dance floor accessory (turn it on frst so you can see all the preeety colours appear as you dance upon it)

To be fair, you do get institutionalised after you've been using STW for a while. Going anywhere else on the internet is far too scary, so I tend to ask questions here first, before going anywhere else.

I don't get the b00dy paste option appearing!

I understand the principle of cut and paste, I just never get anything allowing me to click on the word PASTE.

This may sound a bit fundamental but I suspect you haven't copied the text in the first place

Touch and hold on the text to copy. Select 'select all' and it'll select all. Select 'select' and you get little blue blobs to highlight what you need to highlight. Once highlighted 'cut copy paste' comes up. Select 'copy'

Then do what I said above. You can copy pics too

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I suspect too that you've not copied whatever it is you are trying to copy "properslike"

You can also hit <select all> option - this is the one I use to get all the BB code to copy image urls/code for STW for example. When you are done hit the <copy> or <cut> (ie the black box)

Now once you have done that go to where you want to paste - touch the place - move around the cursor if you have to - then hit the <paste> option (ie again the black box)

That is copied and pasted. When I try to do that in the IMG dialog box I don't get the paste option

I am guessing that in Picasa when I highlight the link and select copy, it doesn't really copy the link text. If I select the embed image link it does copy the text

Which is very interesting but still doesn't help be post up pictures.

To be fair, if I go into the img box I can't copy and paste either....

I don't use Picasa so cannot be sure - try pasting into notes and see if it has picked up the text you were expecting ?

I gave up on this same thing last time i tried to post pics from my iphone, now just copy the url and paste it into the text.

However, thinking about it could you kind of do it backwards by pasting the url and then typing the image brackets round it?

So go on then, try and copy and paste from the img tag box in Picassa/Photobucket etc. Betcha can't 🙂

@boblo - I think we've established its a problem with the picasa/photobucket sites when used with the iPad, flickr works fine as you can see

Um, I use Photobucket exclusively for posting photos on here, and I don't have problems with it, but there are occasions on other sites or pages, where, for some peculiar reason, the copy function doesn't work properly.
It happens on here sometimes as well; if I've pasted something into this box, then want to copy a quote from a post back up the thread, as long as the keyboard is showing, I can't actually tap on any text to highlight and copy, I have to select another tab then come back, so that the keyboard has disappeared, then I can select the text. I used to be able to do this, but it's possibly something in iOS 6.
Actually, stet that, I've just realised that you can select just by tapping the keyboard key in the bottom right, which closes the 'board. I knew there had to be a quick answer. Anyway, some sites simply won't allow c'n'p, like Facebook, which you just cannot even highlight text on.
Generally, I find iOS c'n'p function to work perfectly well, I particularly like the 'magnifying glass' facility that you get when you tap and hold, so you can see small text more easily to select end points.

in picasa ive found the best way is to use the links at the bottom right if your taking the photos from the actual website rather than any app

select your size and image only

then copy the url box

the copying of the lightly greyed out box never worked for me either.

Tried that on my phone. I normally use Flickr so I guess it may be a Picasa thing ?

1) Purchase second iPad
2) Photograph whatever you want to copy
3) Email photo to original iPad

You may want to consider buying a 3rd iPad for data storage purposes 😉

That said, they are rather lovely.
