I'm interested in registering a domain name. Google shows loads of companies that will do it for a fee, but whats the cheapest way? Do I pay a yearly subscription? Any idea how much?

Yes, you need to pay - AFAIK, with the free ones, you don't really have control over the name

I use

no issues about 12 quid for 2 years with free hosting on their freeola site with unlimited storage.
Not ever had a problem or found anyone better.
