The wife's off work & is trying to do some Elearning while at home. She's logged on to the NHS learning site but when she tries to get onto a subject a box comes up saying, 'A popup blocker has prevented the content window from opening properly. Disable popup blocking for this site, exit the course & try again'
Wev'e stopped the adblock for the site on 2 different laptops but it still keeps happening. Is adblock different to popups & if so how do I stop the popups popping up!
Help!
Maybe it's popping up from another URL?
Just disable the whole adblock tool and try again?
Is there a red cross or similar in the URL bar (right side) of the browser ? This is normal behavior for some browsers to stop crappy sites presenting popups. You can grant permission on a site by site basis for popups, usually clicking on the red cross (or whatever it is) gives you options to permit popups.
What browser is it ? It's most likely a browser config, not adblock.
As above. Suggest trying a different browser. Firefox if you don't want to use Google Chrome.
NHS work-life balance = doing e-learning courses on Easter Sunday with IT systems that are crap.
I share your pain (writing thesis on Easter Sunday), fortunately using a university computer.
Is adblock different to popups
Yes. What ATP said, it'll be a browser setting somewhere. Would be easier to say exactly if we knew which browser she was using.
Thanks, just installed Firefox onto wifes laptop & same things happening!
She was trying Chrome but she's also tried Explorer.
Ta Cougar, I'll look at that.
Most browsers these days will block pop-ups by default due to the general annoyance and malware risks. As said you usually get something indicating there was a pop up and an option to accept it once or always for that site.
That bit worked Cougar but now another window comes up saying, 'Oracle SCORM Adapter, error: Java is not enabled. Java is either not installed in your browser or is disabled. You must install & enable Java to use this learning object'
well Java is sodding installed & enabled in the browser!
I'm losing the will to live here FFS!
Go into Control Panel / Java, look at the Security tab. Add the website URL to the exceptions. You might need to add it twice, using http and https.
Java is a PITA. Historically it was one of the worst offenders for malware attack vectors, so they finally got their house in order and locked it all down, rendering it virtually unusable in the process. They'll be second against the wall after we've finally given Flash a slow horrible death.
I've done that Cougar, still the same. She's going to have to wait & get to an NHS computer to do it.
Thanks for the help though.
I have to do that e-learning, i assume using the same software and it's a nightmare!! Even if it runs smoothly it is difficult to navigate. I've only ever done it on a work computer using chrome or IE, there's no issues with pop ups but the warning about security certificates comes up which we have to ignore otherwise it doesn't work.
