Thinking of taking my girlfriend to Bristol for the weekend. I have had a quick look on the net and prices seem quite steep. I suppose the school half term starts on Friday so that puts prices up? I want to be located in central Bristol as we fancy doing a bit of site seeing. Any recomendations on hotels or attractions to visit?

Matt

PS - If nothing comes up trump it looks like we might be heading for Swanage instead. Handy for dropping in to see Charlie the Bike Monger...

Sorry Ciaran
I love Bristol, used to work for Fitness First at Cribbs Causeway many years ago, but as a tourist it all soon mounts up. Add in a 2 hr drive, a couple of meals out, visit a few attractions and then 2 nights hotel stay and I am almost touching £400. Any suggestions?

Matt

Don't know about places to stay but there are a number of Travellodge type places - IBIS, Holiday Inn Express.

Places to visit - SS Great Britain and the Matthew after a nice walk along the docks. Trip up to Clifton village and a wander across the Suspension Bridge. Boat ride round the docks. Shopping in Cabot Circus, Park Street, Clfton Village or Gloucester Road. Might be worth popping into the Museum / Art Gallery as they often have interesting exhibitions on. Lots of places to eat, drink and relax in all the places mentioned above.

Avon Gorge Hotel is probably the nicest location I can think of, will probably cost you an arm and a leg. Even if you don't stay there, its worth a drink in there pub as they have a great beer terrace over looking the gorge and suspension bridge.

As has been said YHA hostel is right in the centre over the other side of the water to the gong show that is the waterside.

I'm in the YHA in Bristol right now. Its pretty cool. I don't know if it does private rooms, but it is pretty busy. Get in early if you want it.

It is in a pretty cool area, right on the floating harbour with Mud Dock bikes (Bar and cafe and restaurant... obviously) right nearby.

There is a bike store at the hostel too. Accessible by lift afaik.

nothing else going for it tho - rubbish bar. Have one there then go round to The Mall. Nicer pub.

Coronation Tap!! Just around the corner from the Mall and does some awesome cider that will take your head off. Plus you can get a "I've been corried" badge. I've spent many an evening in there. I think.

Sorry bikey, only taking the Mick. I might avoid Arnos Manor if I were you. But as you said, two nights in Bristol with meals, activities, drinks and a bit of shopping...£400 quid won't get far. Try Travelodge on the river, Ibis.
