brilliant, he's got ears like Kea (my big hairy whippet) who is just about to be taken swimming and then to vets, fingers crossed for good news on the injury and she can once more be unleashed on an unsuspecting world.

Good vid Stan, some on here would say his 'bars' are too wide for single track but he seems in control! 😀
A local spaniel runs around with too big sticks and we have seen him come to grief more than once on narrow single track!

And remember , owners do grow to look like their dogs - not vice versa- so choose one with a handsome face, good breath, and a fine pair of plums.

I have a working stock black lab, she eats around a cup of dry food a day and a little protein like chicken or lean meat three times a week. You have to keep a strict eye on diet or they get fat fast, they are genetic scavengers!

Mine goes with me on rides up to around 10 miles or so and is exceptionally good with other people, dogs and my kids.

Labs are truly brilliant dogs but I'd avoid a "show" stock one..

I love dog threads 😆

Point has been made already but......if you can't stop a beagle pulling on the lead for gawds sake don't get anything remotely strong willed or big!
Some great dogs pics on here - the labradoodle is fantastic.

Here's my 2

Apart from a little misunderstanding a week ago (that's a fun way to wake up at 4am) they're getting on okay.

Our retriever is awesome, but we did it a bit wrong when he was growing up by not introducing him to enough new people/dogs. As such he's quite scared of strangers and very protective over us, can be a bit growly etc til he gets to know them and realises they're not going to hurt us! To people he knows he's soft as shite 😆

Says the man with a lab, I think you must have little idea what beagles are like, all the ones I've seen are not allowed off the lead and pull like hell on it.

We have a Black Lab pup and she is great, she is is fitting in well in the house with our 6 year old Collie. We lost our 16 year old Collie a couple of weeks ago she will be really missed.

Beagle's are stubborn.

We had one that never wanted to go for walks and never wanted to come back from them. Had to drag her all the way there and all the way back.

Greedy as well.

Hah my wee dog thread goes on......you big softies STW.

I dedect a little bit of smirking regarding my inability to train a beagle not to scavenge all the time and pull on the lead. Any other owners feel free to pile in in my defence, I'm really not sure how you go about drilling them.

So I think labradors, much as I love them are out.......they sound just too like my dog when it comes to misbehaving, I might as well just get another beagle.

We have been in touch with some nice ladies from the Gordon Setter Association, we are going to go visit some owners, and see some adult dogs. I think we may decide they are a bit on the big side but I have fallen in love at least with the look of the breed......and like me they hail from the chilly north.

I think we may well end up getting a German Short Haired Pointer. Are about the same height as a Lab but slimmer, very athletic so can run with the bike and have a great reputation as a family dog.

Thanks for all the input.......any Pointer or Gordon owners?

a lab would be much easier to train than a beagle the GSHP would be quite headstrong like the Beagle only bigger. If you get a pub take it to puppy training, not for the dog really but will help you get the basics.
