Where does the free end of the resistor need to connect to please it came off whilst opening box and I am lost
Either the live (red) or neutral (blue) connector 🙂
BTW, wrapping a high temperature ceramic resistor with (flamable) insulation tape isn't a particularly great idea, although in this case, in normal use, that resistor won't get too hot (because it's just a current limiting resistor for the motor starter capacitor), It would be better to electrically insulate the crimped connections to it with either some specific high temp heat shrink, or some woven fibreglass shealthing.

Over the cap. It's probably a bleed resister if it Is a very high value.
Would it have been soldered to the outside of the capacitor as there is a random blob of solder there?
