Had this on and off for a few months now but can't pinpoint what triggers it exactly - a sharp pain from around the edge of my left heel seems to be made worse by placing my foot awkwardly say when hillwalking - it then lasts a few days but sometimes recurs for no apparent reason

Plantar Fasciatis mate (probly) I've got it. Sounds similar.

Don't self diagnose mind! I thought I had plantar fasciitis turns out I had sciatica and the pain was manifesting itself in my heel, not the back as you would usually imagine it to do so. So the exercises I was doing for the PF were a bit pointless!! Good luck but go to a physio or GP (if you trust them!!!!).
