Hi all
I am going to produce a meditation CD. I do not think at this moment in time there is a "print on demand" service such as Lulu.com for physical CDs. (I am going to use Lulu for my book, and want to launch my CD in conjunction with it).
I have been doing some research, and it seems that there are two services tunecore and CD-baby which offer the ability at a small cost to get the tracks out there. However, there do seem to be mixed reviews of the quality of service and support.
Has anyone released any tracks and how did you do it? I have seen other meditation albums and tracks on Amazon, and these seem to be on the artists' own "labels".
Any help or thoughts or experiences would be great.

The singer from my own band has been releasing through both and seems to be doing pretty well (had a bit of a promo on MTV if I remember right, so can't be doing too bad). If I get the chance I will try and get in touch with him (we haven't really spoken much since the demise of the band)

That would be great and the info much appreciated. Some of the reviews seem to be from when tunecore first launched, so maybe they have sorted out some of their supposed issues.
I have found a recording studio in Dumfries that seems to be able to do the basic recording for around £100, but as for distribution that is the issue.

The good Captain dropped me an email to tell me about reverbnation.com. This also seems to be able to offer a shop whereby people can order the physical CD, as well as the individual tracks, so this could well be the route I go down!

Right, one of the reasons we went with Kerascene was because they did digital distribution only. We do the physical distribution ourselves, which is predominantly giving them away! ;o)
yeah, we've done 2 releases. one with Tunecore, the other with Reverbnation; other services are available, e.g. Bandcamp. The reason we chose RN for the second one was that the price for Tunecore had gone up from about $24 to nearer $40 for a "single"
Both Tunecore & Reverbnation are US-based so all transactions in US$; you pay a fixed fee depending on how many tracks you're uploading, then 6-8 weeks later, the royalties from on-line sales come rolling in... or not 😉
Both have a minimum balance though before you can draw down your funds - I think it's $20 in both cases, but I could be wrong.
Reverbnation also has an on-line store where you can put your tracks for download, and I don't think there's a fee, although they will take a cut of any sales. You can also set up some on-demand merchandise for not a lot of outlay, if that floats your boat. I have a few samples that I set up, the t-shirt's ok if a little thin (American Apparel IIRC), the baseball cap is fine

Yeah - I need physical distribution too as I am not in the UK. If my book gets reviewed in the specialist press (e.g. shaman related magazines such as Shaman's Drum and Sacred Hoop etc) then people will also hopefully find out about the CD. My blog also gets a small number of hits each day, so that is another outlet.
It remains to be seen if any newspapers or magazines will be interested in reviewing the book or writing articles. I did do a long interview with a BBC journalist last week but he probably won't write about my book, he just wanted background information on what my book is about.

Do you know if I can sell just an album as opposed to individual tracks on amazon and itunes via reverbnation? My CD does not make sense in terms of individual tracks.
IIRC both of our downloads are available as both "albums" and individual tracks. So I suppose the answer is yes
But then if your album is one continuous track...
