Trying to remove the cartridge from the shower, can't for the life of me figure out how to get the dam thing out!

Pic below (bottom half is the cartridge).

Should I be trying to turn the big brass nut just behind the adjuster? Or should the thing just pull out?

Worth searching for an exploded diagram or service manual on t'internet.

I got about that far with mine before realising the stupid design meant that I needed access to the back of it, which would mean making a big hole in the wall.

Hmmm that big nut only protrudes about 3mm which is making getting any sort of torque on it very difficult.

I don't know what make the shower is (it was here when we moved in) 🙁

Looks like a Bristan cartridge. Check the underside for a recessed allen nut retaining screw. Remove and unit should pull out with a bit of wiggling.

Mmm I used to work as a maintenance engineer in a hotel and we had those showers installed after a refit. As far as I remember there is a trick to getting to the cassette and I'm sure there was some special tool required. If I remember rightly if you turn the big nut the whole assemble rotates, have you tried locking the splined section while turning the large nut.

Looks like a mira

It looks like you have taken one circlip off already?
If so, then you pull out the end piece.
Behind that will be another, harder to get out circlip.
There may be a grub screw, but I dont think so.
Anyway, they can be very difficult to get out, as the limescale cements them into place.
It will come out eventually.
The big nut - I dont think that needs to come out, as the cartridge should come out from the middle.

Same as mine - you need a massive socket and a long bar.
