For the last week or so i have had pain in what feels like my socket in my hips. The pain also is in my lower back and sometimes my knee. Does this sound like a groin strain the funny thing is i just woke up with it one day. It seems to worsen if i lie down for prolonged periods its starting to do my head in now. Anyone else had similar pains? I dont understand why the pain is in both thighs

No doesnt sounds like groin strain.

Groin strain describes a partial tear of one of the Adductor muscles.

You dont seem to mention muscles pain at all in fact its the one thing you dont mention. You description is so vague it could be one of many injuries to you pelvis.

Groin strain can be ache from the bladder region down to inner leg.

Get to your GP, get your blood work doen too just in case and present them with a full history as you have written what when and how so they take you seriously.

If they say you a clear, visit a chriopractor-sounds like a nerve impingment.

Is it an ache or electrical pain?

Don't do any lifting and try a different bed too.

Good luck fella hope you get better soon.

dont know how i could have injured my pelvis like i said i just woke up with it. It is my muscles that hurt its just that its in both legs and i thought a groin strain would be in just one leg

To me it doesnt sound like your describing a muscle pain at all.

If your muscles were damaged they would hurt when you used them and be fine when you dont. (unless your torn one and you'd know about that)

You describe "worsen if i lie down for prolonged periods "

This sounds much more like nerve pain I would go to a physio/doctor. You description is too vague for anything but wild guesses from us.

I would go to a physio then.

Although Chiropractic obviously has some success it is not actually based on the current scientific thinking.

It is similar to acupuncture is based on the concept of "Chi" which has proven to be false. However acupuncture continues to be practised and some studies has shown it to be beneficial however we are still unsure and to why this is.

Chiropractic is based on Vertebral subluxation which currently is unproven.
Therefore I would say go to a physio as there practise is based on current thinking.

I would find and diagnose the cause before any treatment no matter who you see.

I study physiology and Biochem so it helps when I'm injured but the Gp can confirm or show other causes.

I had cramp in my right calf when riding, dull ache in hip and right leg-for 8 weeks of annoying pain/dull ache turned out I had sciatica from tight joints and muscles on my right hip pressing on the nerve.

I sit alot at work too-it doesn't help.

My doctor is very good but wanted to try anti inflammation drugs.
I had an x ray that showed the joints and discs were fine so I decided to stretch more with the aid of the Bath rugby clubs chriopractor who confirmed my diagosis.

We spent 3 months stretching and freeing the hip area and it worked-I can eat hills for breakfast now.

I still stretch every on/off day.

Don't let it get you down, don't look for a magic cure but use logic to aid you Gp.

Groin strains can be pain free if not torn after a few days.
See another Gp-it doesn't hurt to get a second a opinion and get them to examine your legs and back even an xray. Demand it.

Once you're proved you're not in danger-see a physio/chiro -make sure they are registered and not some wacko. See their credentials.

Be patient.

How old are you? are in shape? is the pain worse when the leg is lifted straight up when lying down?-this is what your Gp should check.

Go book an appt with another Gp and be confident so you can get good care.
Show them notes and research and that you are serious.

Sleep on your stomach if you can till then.
