...and I have NOT upgraded to W10. I have a 2-3 yr old PC with Win7 Prof, i5, all working OK until a few days ago, now when I have a few tabs open (often STW:) when I come to close one with the usual'x' press, it freezes and I have to close the whole Chrome window.
I guess maybe a windows upgrade in background thingie, there was a security update 10 days ago.
Any ideas what I can look at, or is this Windows message to move up to W10!

How many tabs? Try reinstalling chrome? Does it hard lock your PC or just chrome not responding?
Often 10+ tabs 🙂 I have found an update so I unloaded it and am just seeing what happens now I am back on my PC. It is just Chrome not the PC.
OK so just froze again, only 4 tabs! Think re-install time.
I tried switching off the prefetch in advanced settings in chrome and that seems to have worked so far but it is only one day
I have win 10 (and 8.1 on my laptop). Chrome's been shite for a few weeks now. Although tab heavy (20+), I also have 32Gb RAM, i7 etc.
Upgrade to win 10 (it's great) and try MS Edge.
I was having trouble with Chrome freezing/not responding last week, in the end I installed Version 47.0.2508.0 dev-m beta and it's been fine ever since.
I'm on Windows 10 BTW.
Chrome has its own task manager for when individual tabs play up, try using that make life easier:

Same problem here - with anything more than one tab open. PITA
Thought it was just me as nothing was coming up on Google about it. Always have a few windows open and a few tabs on each and it's getting very frustratingly been freezing for the last couple of weeks. On the work CAD station so it's not RAM or graphics (Win 7).
Only at work mind - my own laptop is fine so far
My guess is this is to do with chrome updates and blocking out flash. Not sure exactly what's happening mind just having a guess. I've had problems with work websites and chrome too.

I searched "google chrome tabs freezing" and just got 186,000 hits on Google??
I googled "chrome crashing" and iirc nothing recent came up but it was a couple of weeks ago.
