Alright so I'm looking for a pair of lightweight running shoes with good arch support, and sweet colors 🙂 if you could give me suggestions that would be beautiful 😉

Best advice I think is to go to a proper running shop, get on the treadmill and let them analyse your gait. They will be then be able to recommend the best shoes for you. It's a very personal thing.

go and try a load on, your feet will tell you when they're happy.

listen to your feet.

That's what I did and the shoes (ASICS) I got have served me well so far.

1. Welcome to the forum.

2. On or off road?

The best thing to do is go to a running shop and be assessed on a treadmill by a teenager on minimum wage with no training who will then by coincidence recommend a shoe that they happen to have in stock. 🙄

I totally and utterly disagree with this. I have a pair of shoes bought from the interweb that fitted me nicely and were used for intensive training for 9 months up to and including a half marathon.

I then decided to get 'properly' fitted (at a very well regarded specialist shop in Harrogate) and they told me I over-pronate. The shoes were uncomfortable and caused pins and needles in my toes when running uphill.

The way I see it, I have had the same feet/legs/joints my entire life and suddenly after 40-odd years to force them to do something differently actually caused more problems than it solved.

I know, it's a cross I have to bear.

Hold on whilst I get the hammer.

A good friend of mine is a terrible over pronator. To run behind him it looks as though his foot totally collapses on every impact. He has ran under 25 mins for for 5 miles and around 52 for 10. He has ran for decades and the only problem he had was when he tried to correct it using shoes that controlled pronation!
You body is a wonderful thing with careful build up it will compensate.

I used to be quite cynical of the gait analysis thing, especially when videoed and played back to you through proprietary software. However speaking to someone at a proper runnign shop, trying on a load of recommended shoes on the treadmill whilst they watch your form / listen for sounds is actually worthwhile IMO.

Where are you based, whats your routine, history, type of running and so on. How do you know you need good arch support?

Its a bit like choosing a saddle you can be lucky and get it right first time or spend a fortune trying different models 🙁
