Off to The Smoke and have an evening spare.
I'm meeting a colleague near Covent Garden (a pub on Chandos Place) and am staying near Euston. Suggestions for food in either area? Nowt overly expensive as I won't get it through expenses.
Thanks all!

Diwana Bhel Poori in Drummond St near Euston was always good for cheap veggie curry thalis BITD.

Or if you don't mind a chain, Zizzi in Charlotte Street is kind-of en route if you're walking.

Bit further west but the Indian YMCA on Fitzroy Sq is a sociable and cheap eat.

Tokyo Diner in Newport Court - authentic inexpensive Japanese food and tipping is forbidden.

There is a really good veggie curry place just behind Euston - well, at least there was when I went there 25 years ago.
No idea what it was called

I'm going to check this out the next time I'm down for work, our offices aren't miles away from there

We head into Chinatown. There's some great all-you-can-eat buffets if you want a bit of everything or a huge range of other Chinese eateries.

Seven Dials Market in Covent Garden is a collection of street food joints, mostly delicious and (for London) reasonably priced. They even have a Conveyor belt cheese bar which is surprisingly awesome.

a pub on Chandos Place

The Chandos Inn? Was one of favourites for a cheap pint in London back in the 90s. Sam Smiths. Saw Ralph Little in there once I think.

North Gower Street was the go to for very good curries IIRC

Wahaca on Covent Garden is great - lots of varieties of tacos, burrito's etc.

Mildreds in Soho if you want vegan (great for non-vegans too).

With the quality of London's restaurant scene you'd be mad to go to a chain IMO.

Bibimbap on Greek St in Soho. They serve… Bibimbap. Seriously though. It’s good value for money and quite good.

The splendid curry places on Drummond Street west of Euston station or Roti King east of the station - there may well be a queue at either of the places as they're both very popular with the medical students who train on the other side of the road.
Also as a walking snack, or an anytime/all-the-time, head to Ambala (also on Drummond Street) for their samosa, 90p each and absolutely fantastic.

It's the middle of London, you're not short of choice. Soho used to be my stamping ground but I'm so far out of date. Pleased to hear Mildred's is still there (not exactly post pub fare), but I mean they've closed Jimmy's 🙁 .

Anyway, I'd go French personally and this place is nice: https://goo.gl/maps/mEQSvagcwzWLLdZh6 le Garrick. Opposite the actual Garrrick, round the corner from Covent G tube. Ate there a few weeks ago v convivially. Ah bistro.

Haute cuisine it ain't but great for lone eating with a newspaper, and I've had great conversations with Indian folk on stopovers etc.

The dal and parathi is absolutely cracking (if that is on that night).

Thought I'd revisit this thread and provide some updates.
We ate at Wahaca and Mildred's over the weekend.

Wahaca was good - sort of Wagamama does mexican including dishes coming when they are ready and large communal tables. 7/10
Mildred's was excellent - Mrs and Miss OTS are both vegetarian so it went down a storm. Great atmosphere and service. 9/10

We tried 7 Dials Market for lunch, but it's a bit dark and dingy for me - very little natural light. The cheese carousel place looked interesting though.

We got lunch in Orèe on New Row, just baguettes but cheaper than most places, decent amount and tasty!

Also got dinner in Floral by Lima on Floral Street (funnily enough). Peruvian fusion is probably how I'd describe it, very tasty and decent service. Also got a free Pisco sours each thanks to the promo email my missus got sent!
