I've just realised that with my pending knee reconstruction I am likely to be on crutches at Glastonbury! Doesn't sound like the best idea to me, has anyone here done something similar?
I've been completely legless there on numerous occasions if that helps?
I'm just wondering if it's worth going or not, I don't really want to screw up my knee further.
It can be done... I did t in the park on crutches though I wasn't camping, absolutely killed me though and a lot of it wasn't much fun. Can't speak for Glastonbury, we camped beside a guy at Reading one year who was on crutches and he was having a terrible time of it with the softer ground.
Depends on the injury really, there's a really good chance of being accidentally knocked or tripped, I went over twice at t in the park just because of people not being aware of me, so if the knee's still delicate it might not be a good idea.
Sorry to be a bit negative but I don't think I'd do it, not if there was a likelihood of causing further injury. I think I'd end up playing it so safe I might as well not be there.
went to one of the scottish festivals with a guy not long after he had his achilies done. He was crutches and moon boot, what it really meant was access to all the diabled camping and platforms so more toilets shorter walks and better views than most, Most of the staff also let his 6 assistants up on the platforms and through the shortcuts great fun. Though this was an exceptionally well organised festival
I've been there on crutches it wasn't too bad. Past 5 years I have had a pushchair of some sort for one of my children that's much ****in harder in the mud. It will all depend on wether it's muddy or not if it's easy.
I'll try and get hold of my specialist to see how delicate my knee will be in June. Disabled access and privalages could be good though.
I've done 2 Glastonburys's on crutches, camped in the green field both times (both times it was sunny, no mud - back in the early 90's) carrying a rucksack was tough going, but do-able certainly. Get some practice first thou, I wasn't weight bearing and it'll be tough on your arms.
If it's muddy you'll need to 'adapt' your crutches. Easy to do. I've spent 10 years on and off crutches (with one 2 1/2 year stretch) so anything crutches related i've probably had to do it.
Oh, I should've said, if you're happy being in the disabled bit then it'll work much better, better still if you park yourself in front of one stage all day, I think that coloured my experience though as I like to be in the crowd and I move around all day, which didn't work too well.
How long will you have been on crutches at that point? It'll definately help if you've been on them for a while and done some decent mileage, your arms, shoulders and hands will be more used to it.
I went to Glastonbury in 199? on crutches after my knee op. Saw Johnny Cash it was great.
You've not been before, I assume?
It'll be hard going, will you be with sympathetic friends who can carry stuff for you?
I've seen people hobbling about there before & apart from aching arms, seems that the mud is the only major problem. You're not gonna be able to get in the middle of the crowds, means u can hang out at the bar for longer! ๐
Yep my first time, I am a festival virgin.
The biggest thing that'll strike you about it, is the size of the site - it's mahoooosive!
Are you mad!! Don't do it. You'll spend all the festival trying to avoid getting it knocked and with thousands of drunken revellers the chances are quite high.
If something happened you'd be kicking yourself (with you good leg, obviously!) ๐
What's more important 3 days slipping about in mud ๐ฏ or getting your leg right?
