The new track Daniel Avery has out is pretty dark!
Yeah, he had a live drummer doing some drum&bass type beats, very impressive! and a live guitar and bassist giving it some industrial vibes for some of the tracks. Crowd went nuts when he went more Aciiiid though..! There were even a couple of poppy numbers in there... top set, great mixture.
Found that Tuesday's is actually an Instore, so in the record shop. Suspect it'll be slightly lighter!
Is it common for presale to completely clear stuff out? It's not a massive venue (the Ritz) and I guess there would be a lot of interest, first UK dates ever from a very well loved metal band.
Depends on who it is and who qualified for presale. When I got tickets for Kate Bush, I had 48 hours advance access, but only because I’d registered with her website years before, and forgotten about it, they notified me in advance.
When I tried to get tickets for Suzanne Vega at Bristol Beacon, presale was only available to members who’d paid to become members of the Beacon, and most of the best seats had gone when I logged on to their website. I don’t go there often enough to make it worth paying.
My seats were some way back and off to the side, my view was partially blocked by people’s heads in front of me…
Yeah every so often you get a wee bit of a look behind the curtain on stuff like this, Biffy Clyro did a tour last year where 90% of all tickets were in a presale. There was a sort of pre-presale which had 10% of all tickets and was much more limited but between "album preorder" presales, 02 presales, and all that pretty much everything was a presale and just about anyone could get into a presale, you only had to be paying attention. It gets pretty silly sometimes especially in small-for-the-band venues.
Reef at the De Valence Pavilion in Tenby were great on Saturday.
First half of the gig was the whole ‘Replenish’ album and the second half was the singles plus a couple of new songs.

This is quite odd. An instore "gig" , my friend couldn't make it , so standing around in a large-ish very clean and tidy record shop with a bunch of strangers, waiting for Daniel Avery to do a 45 mins set on the Pioneer cdj decks. Bit bored, so I hope it was worth the drive 😆

Sweaty, ears ringing. Local gig in Portsmouth at the new Kola venue. Very fun, great atmosphere (very unusual for Portsmouth gigs!)
4 bands for £14ish. Gumdrop, 3rd on the bill were great, guitarist really knew how to make your ears burn. Headliners Lipworms had us dancing til 11pm… phew. They’re still going with an after party til 3 apparently. I needs me bed though.

Brilliant show last night by Pan Amsterdam, at the Hug & Pint in Glasgow. Not enough rappers play the trumpet! Always love seeing an MC capture a crowd in a small room like that, a total joy, especially on a wet Tuesday night in November. Much to enjoy with him, for fans of A Tribe Called Quest, Miles Davis, MF DOOM.
Next up is TTSSFU at king tuts on Saturday.

Ferocious Dog at the weekend were supported by possibly the worst act I've ever seen. Voodoo Radio, a hyperactive woman singing while bouncing around and bashing at a drumkit and her somnolent father on guitar, dressed like a Slash wannabe. The odd thing is, she could probably sing, but their songs were dreadful (Slag Bank wasn't the worst!) and they kept making the most unpleasant noises out of their respective instruments. Looking the internet the next day it seems that they've supported some quite big names and have been played on 6M, etc.

This leads me to a question I was going to post earlier - are people seeing more and more bands cancelling tours due to low ticket sales?
I've seen 3 in the last couple of weeks in my FB feed. And bands like The Sherlocks - who have millions of streams on Spotify and festival regulars - are struggling to fill very small venues for their current tour.

Excellent show despite the shite sound at the O2. it sounds fuzzy, like you're ears are recovering post gig.
Light show was great.
Raven was surprisingly good too. I'm not keen on her voice from the singles, but there are some tracks she did that let her shine a bit more.
next up for me is NFD and Rhombus at Ivory blacks next friday. I'm enjoying getting back into the gig things.

Yes, they were great on Saturday and knowing that they are calling it a day was the reason we drove two hours to the gig. However, in the years I've been following them they rarely seem to keep a stable line-up together for very long. I don't know why, but I'm hoping that Ken carries on making some music in some way.

This weekends a Rock and Roll Brewhouse one in Brum, Saturday its Djabbic 3 and Liars at The Witch Trial and Sunday its Mr Vast ,Retinal Circus and Sick Boys Club followed by either Splinter at O Bar or Taxi For Jesus at Actress and Bishop.
30th November its the second 2nd City Sonic Attack Festival at Castle and Falcon which will be good and really looking forward to next years Worcester Music Festival which is about the 2nd weekend in September.

Not had any cancellations lately. But then the bands I go to see are usually early in their careers so don't have expectations with ticket sales. Even the more established ones have been fine.
Electric Six at the Picturedome in Holmfirth last Saturday. Was skeptical, but as it was for a friend's birthday went along. Turned out it was a bloody good night!

Last night - Language of Nations - Tramshed, often I'll grab a ticket and not know anything about the band and just stand there and take it all in, they were great live, very 80s synthy stuff
Next week, Hotline TNT, Scaler and Hotel Lux, I've never heard any of their stuff but looking forward to it.

maybe its cos of where i was stood but karlas voice seemed to get lost in the mix at times, but as i knew the songs anyway it wasnt a problem and i really enjoyed the night. my first 'circle' too, at my age! 😀 it just opened up where we were stood so thought what the hell and went for it 😀 it threw me out right on the front rail for the rest of the gig so no complaints there.
oh and it was an 8.15 start, which is most welcome to these tired old bones, back home for 11. need more gigs like that 😀

We saw sprints in Leeds on Friday and really enjoyed it - we're actually in London tomorrow and considered seeing them again but we're at rouleur live til 8 so it's a bit tight.
I had to avoid the circle/crowd surfing/general exuberance though as I'm still recovering from broken ribs/scapula.

Oh, that sounds good. Twice at the Edinburgh Venue, possibly late 80s early 90s. No other band had such a physical impact when watching live. Feeling every note like an assault.

Saw English Teacher last night at Rock City - they were superb as expected. Lily has a great voice.
Looking forward to the Wailers in a couple of weeks time.

Sprints was plenty lively enough at Troxy. Pits opened up in the first song. Best Sprints gig I've been to.
Plus, turns out the carpeted floor which looked weird at first is a genius idea as it doesn't get slippery. Every venue should have carpets.
Plenty of '6 music dads' in the crowd so I didn't feel old at a gig for once.
I’m just on the way back from Baxter Dury and he was absolutely awesome! Put on a proper show. Helped by the fact it was in the Albert Hall which is just the best venue!
If you can see him on this tour and there’s still tickets available, do it! The place was absolutely bouncing tonight!

Wasn't going to just because of prices but we've nabbed 2 resale tickets for the Almighty at the Barrowlands, again, 3 years in a row this is.
They were my first ever proper gig, in 1994. I had a ticket then won backstage passes from Kerrang magazine. But, it was my first ever gig, and I was 16, so I had absolutely no clue what to do with any of this. So I thought "Kerrang will help" and just got the number from directory enquiries and phoned them up. Ended up talking to Ross Halflin, then editor Phil Alexander chatted to me for like an hour and basically gave me the A-Z of how to go to a rock and roll show. Everything from "how a backstage pass works" to "but don't watch the show from side of stage, that sucks, stay in the crowd" "don't crowdsurf with heavy shoes on", etc. Just this enormous download of gigcraft, from rock dad to rock child.
And THEN he said "put your mum on" because I'd mentioned she was freaking out, and he spent 10 minutes convincing her that we weren't going to die and rock fans aren't all satanists and child molesters, and personally vouched for the band 🙂 I'm sure it was all lies but by the end she was finally happy to let me go so I didn't have to sneak out and go anyway.
All been downhill since. 31 years on and I don't think I'm getting on the stage this time.

Applause for one song barely begins and it's "ONETWOTHREEFOUR!!..." and straight into the next. A one-man Ramones. If I've got a quarter of his energy at 65, I'll think myself very lucky.

Irritatingly, my wife came to see them at The Globe in Cardiff last time they played there, and the sound was awful - deafening and poorly mixed, and they seemed to be attempting to be heavier than they often are. She didn't want to see them in Llandrindod last week so didn't come, but the sound was much better and they were excellent.
I forgot to update about Gary Numan in Leeds last week – it was a great gig (he's as much a performance artiste as a musician), but there were some weirdos in the crowd getting antsy with my for trying to get past them to where I was with my group – trying to stop me getting past altogether. Not that they stopped me 😂
Then, this Friday it's Pop Will Eat Itself at the Brudenell Club on the outskirts of Leeds – one of my favourite venues.

True story coming up... Had tickets to see him in Leeds on Sunday. Friends we'd not seen for a while did too so we went for a quick beer beforehand and then a couple more, as we decided we could miss the support and Google said he'd be on about nine. Got there and popped in near the front of a delirious crowd and a fully going off gig. Thought blimey if he starts like this where's it going to go? Unfortunately that was the encore. Fail . Went back to the pub
Lottery Winners at The Tramshed in Cardiff last night were great. All very good musicians and plenty of interaction with the crowd.
Going back to Swans I saw them in the Marble Factory in Bristol around 2016, I knew they were loud but flipping heck! I never take ear plugs but luckily managed to dig some tissue paper out my pockets to stuff in my ears, it was unbearable!
Hotline TNT were good on Monday, Kneecap were playing in another venue on the same night and took some of the crowd no doubt but great small gig
Scaler tonight in Cardiff, I didn't realise they'd changed there name from Scalping, I'd seen them under the old name before!
Since seeing Nation of Language last week I've really got into their records, it's a very distinct sound but reminds me loads of being a kid and being driven around in a car with my Mams Tears for Fears and Erasure tapes in the 80s, I really like them.

Just seen Forest Swords are supporting Mogwai on their tour early next year. I really wana see Forest Swords again, not too bothered about Mogwai, so £45 for a ticket is a bit mad for a support band 🙁
That's how I ended up at Nation of Language, Westerman was supporting and I really like his stuff so mainly went for him, once he'd played some off his new record anything else was a bonus, but yeah £45 is a bit steep!

Saw Night Swimming at Thekla in Bristol at the weekend with my daughter, her first proper gig outside of End of the Road. Loved the venue, booked Dot2dot festival for May straight after.
Finally managed to get us Radiohead tickets today after months of trying. Extremely happy but it was bloody stressful. And we're in full on corporate which may cause issues with entry as I look like a tramp. Ruinously priced, but still £500 a ticket cheaper than the corporate block tickets I was offered in September.

My son appeared to be the only youngster there (where we were seated anyway). It was really good, glad he didn't play the songs in order of the LP.
Down in the park was so good. I ****ing hate encores but the separation of the songs worked well.
First time at Hammersmith, a big venue and it is a bit mental that he gets such a big crowd really cheering him on now.
Missed out on Radiohead tickets, managed to get the goldenish ticket for the initial sale, but when i got to the check out it was no under 16s in the standing area or £341 for a seat.
Son thought if was excellent but not as good as Limp Bizkit 😃

I had quite a weekend of gigs, both part of the London Jazz Festival, but I wouldn't consider either Jazz!
First, The Weather Station at EartH, Hackney / Dalston on Friday. First time for me in this venue and the setting really suited the music, which was beautiful, cathartic, emotional and noisy at times, particularly the outro for "Robber". Seeing a visibly pregnant woman singing (and talking) about climate change and climate grief really hit me in the feels, man.
Second, Tortoise at the Barbican last night (Saturday). Slightly different, maybe more jazz. A great set spanning their entire catalogue and they're not quite as polished live as on record, in a good way. Great musicianship, danceable and noisy at times.
Good, but I think I was still reeling from the night before to fully appreciate it.
Got the train from Oxford both evenings as it's cheaper than staying over, but pretty wiped today.
Thursday night in London for Bob Mould and his band. They hadn’t played together for 6 months but were SOOO tight and good. All appeared to be having a whale of a time too. Met Jon the drummer afterwards then Bob the next morning. Very very happy with everything.
