He likes books, Japanese stuff and things that make him laugh (in the words of his mother).

Or should I just send him money (that's probably what I would have wanted at his age).

Order him an 18 year old Japanese Girl with a GSOH

There'll be an advert on here in a minute that'll tell you how.

C&H is always a winner.

Doesn't do any cycling/climbing. He's taking a year off before Uni, possibly with a plan to do some travelling. I could buy him a Handpresso or something, but he may not go in the end.

One of my boys likes Manga/Anime stuff and his brother got an artist to paint him as a caricature of his favourite Anime character.
He loved it.

ooh that could be good.
Any chance you remember where you got it done? He looks like a character anyway so should be easy!

I could buy him a Handpresso

I think at 18 you should get him the full personal service to be honest.

A season ticket for his local orchestra/classical venue/theatre.

Kids seem to be open to anything at that age:
Not too old to be cynical, old enough to appreciate something worth while.

Life membership of the National Trust was my proposal for Teen 1 and 2. A. Bit out of your budget, but they'll remember it.

He went on a big holiday instead 🙁

OP
Here is the site that we used.
Good service and the artist (Mair Perkins) was very helpful.
