We will be in touch
Ive heard that a lot of people have got money off their sky deals.Has anybody actually done it and how did they go about it.Any advice gratefully received .Thanks Ed
I did, I phoned them and said that it felt I was paying too much. Got £20 a month off and still have all the same channels as I did before.
Dead easy.
I didn’t.
My SkyBox went pop and they charged me £80 for a new one, a couple of years later that went pop and I got hold of a HD box and that cost £80.. then that went pop so I called them and asked about reductions and such they told me to take a hike and keep on walking.
Then I had a load of issues with my BB and had to buy a new router, and another a year later.
And I’ve got BB/Phoneline/TV incl Movies.
Ive never been able to get anything free from them,
There's a thread on here on the very subject, just say you're leaving never take their first offer even go through the process of leaving. You'll start getting offers that are worth considering.
I ended up cancelling last year altogether me never missed it.

I just called them, said I wanted to leave them for BT as I was paying too much and with a new baby in the house we were cutting down our bills. Put me though to the leaving team who managed to knock £20 a month off.
To add, we were perfectly prepared to leave as there isn't much, if any, Sky specific stuff we watch. I guess if you really do watch Sky Living and nothing else they might call your bluff as they always ask what we watch and we mainly just say BBC, channel 4 etc
A mate rings them and threatens to leave, and they cut the price to keep him - works especially well if there's a new customer deal he wants them to match
I’ve just got off the phone with sky and I am saving £42 per month ,happy days!
How much were you paying if you are now paying £42 a month less?
Ring them , play them off against an imaginary rival . Amazingly they found a super deal code that was nearly out of date ... but as a I'm an existing customer they could use ... Amazing ..
Murdoch is a **** though. Why is anyone giving him money?
I created that very post that was linked and have been screwing them ever since. Stand firm, risk a few days without telly and you'll get the deal you're after. They actually extended my deal to two years to save the grief of arguing out another deal. I get full hd with sports and movies and bband plus telephone line rental for buttons. Will have a look what I actually pay and report back.
55 quid. That's telephone line rental, fibre bband and all the hd telly.
Murdoch is a **** though. Why is anyone giving him money?
If Pol Pot/Hitler/Idi Amin etc was around & running Sky, as long as they provided what people wanted, people would still pay.
Detail of how I've done it...
I've called up when contract approaching end (and just over), stated I'm probably gonna cancel because we watch more Netflix now. [edit: we don't even have Netflix. Does that make me a bad person?]
- first time our £25/month was cut to £5/mth for 12 of 18 months
- next time £25/mth went to £11/mth for 12 of 18 mths
Just called up last week to talk about getting fancy schmancy Sky Q with multiroom, but noted a one-off £10 discrepancy in advertising on their site. They apologised, gave me the 2GB box for £20 (not £75) and gave me a new 18mth contract at £23/mth (i.e. extending our £14/mth discount for the full 18mths but including multiroom now).
Zero negotiation skills involved!
Murdoch is a **** though. Why is anyone giving him money?
I'm paying for a service that a company he is a large shareholder in offers, not giving him money. Lets be honest a lot of large successful companies will have at least one morally questionable director, board member, significant investor or dodgy policy history. That information should be freely accessible so people can make informed choices but no one here should be judging anyone based on the companies they legally spend their money with...
Did anyone else get that really sneaky mailout from Sky?
It co-incided with our introductory 18 month contract coming to an end, and the gist (actually more or less the exact wording) was:
'Your offer is coming to an end, but don't worry, we've given you a new deal and you'll save £20 a month. No need to do anything this new deal will automatically go into effect next month'
Suspicious, I checked our upcoming bills, and right enough, when they say 'you'll save £20 a month', what they actually meant was 'we've put all your prices up, but then given you £20 off the total. Your actual bill is still going up £12/month'.
Sure, nowhere have they actually lied, but if that's not a deliberate attempt to deceive then I don't know what is. I'd move to BT just on principle but A) I doubt the hapless Sky call handler that I announced this to would care less and B) one of my wife's bullshit TV shows is only on Sky... : (
one of my wife’s bullshit TV shows is only on Sky
the crux of the matter. that is a shit situation though, we've only so far had an incremental increase, but certainly ready to negotiate if and when the time comes.
I don’t want to call Sky, they frighten me.
I get told all colours of No.
Isnt there a company that could do this for me???
I got a £17pcm broadband deal and after it was up I called to see what they could do - got £19 instead of late £20s I think 🙂
I don’t want to call Sky, they frighten me.
Yup, it's www.mtfu.com 🙂
I've called their bluff this afternoon; we were on £19 for the entertainment/box set package, then it went up last month to £25, then this month it's £39! So, I've rung and cancelled. They offered to put it back down to £19, but I said I was happy to cancel, so the process has started. Let's see who blinks first.
I hope it's them, because
one of my wife’s bullshit TV shows is only on Sky
Half price is usually their best offer, good luck.
Yeah it's usually 30-35% first offer then ups to 50% after a couple of weeks. I just go with that but a mate holds on and seems to get up to £100 account credit to but apparently some people don't get offered that and end up disconnected so it might just be an occasional offer or under certain circumstances.
Well, I've just had a call from Sky. We landed at £17 a month 🙂
He did say "there'll be a £10 admin fee", but I asked why I would pay a fee when I was otherwise leaving, so there's a £10 credit being applied to the account 🙂
Come on bikebouy, you don't even have to haggle to get 30%+ off.
I got that and a new box for my parents just by saying they weren't happy with the price rises and didn't find it value for money anymore.
Since then, they've got their own discounts of similar amounts as soon as the 12month period is up.
I’m lazy, I had all weekend to do something about it but I went out instead.
One day when WFH I’ll get on and do it.
one of my wife’s bullshit TV shows is only on Sky
It's worth having a look at NowTV to see if the bullshit tv show is offered on there.
I gave Sky up last year as I was only watching John Oliver, Game of Thrones and the odd footy match - I do miss the Sky Plus recording though.
When you call, ask to speak to Retentions. They're the people employed to convince you to stay, and have the best deals. No point speaking to anyone else.
Yeah, the recording is one of the bits we (and when i say 'we...') want to keep hold of.
Oh and don't get locked into a long contract, wait for the 50% discount (which will come with a 12-18 month tie-in) and say you'll stay based on the discount but just want a rolling monthly contract (but the discount term to be 12-18 months).
I'm shafted next time as locked into Sky Q now 🙁
I used Live Chat to cancel, they initially offered to reduce us from £57 to £37, then £33 and finally £25 for TV+Movies for 18months and £1/m for each of Kids, HD and Boxsets with no end to the deal for those. £28/m - I’m happy enough with that.
I wanted to drop Sports and boxsets, but the special price is still more than a deal for a new subscriber
We recently moved - took the skybox with us (all in my partner's name), connected it all up, only some channels worked... called Sky, it'll be an £80 call out charge for an engineer.
Said no. It's a free service when you are a new customer. We'll cancel.
They then offered it for £40, we again refused.
Meanwhile I sign up for Sky using a new customer discount code... get the new box, free install, new dish all free.
They then phone my partner & say they'll send an engineer for free...
Paying £20/month for HD plus box sets
I'm actually moving house in a couple of months, so I'll cancel and then get a new contract in my wife's name at the new address as they don't seem to want to do a deal.
Maybe the threat of cancellation may bring a different attitude
Just renewed last week , rang them with 1 day to go on the contract - played the game for a couple of minutes and amazingly they found a discount code - £20.00 package for £11.00 .
I've done the same thing every time for 15 + years , they always find a magic discount code .
