Given I have bt and Vodafone any ideas on cheapest way to make calls to Canadian numbers
e.g 0044 type stuff etc

Calling mobiles? Just use FaceTime Audio Facebook, etc

Do you want to call just a few specific people, then use whatsapp.
If you want to call Canada generally then you can get a Canadian number through skype

Calling Canada is free on Google Hangouts.

0044 is the UK, not Canada.
