Hi,

I'm looking for an electrician. Remind me what schemes must should be members of?

I can see a common list:

napit
electric safe
city and guilds qualified
nic eic
exot
eca

which are useful?

Thanks,

Stu

Is it not easier to use CheckaTrade and go with the one with the most/best reviews?

UK passport and a minimum salary of £10k, or am I thinking of something else?

Last one I used (Building control sent him round to sign off the workshop) stole my VDE screwdrivers!

So I'd go for a background Criminal Record check first...

Electrician here. If they are doing domestic work requiring notification to building control they will need to be a member of one of the Part P schemes, ie NAPIT, NICEIC, ELECSA etc.

The part P scheme organisation will have some method of checking their competency. This should not be relied on as I have seen some dreadful work done by scheme members.

The primary qualification is commitment to quality and customer service - something that doesn't come with a certificate.

Word of mouth is usually the best way.

(West Wales if you need a good electrician!).

Rich.

PS (Edit) Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
