The Football Association will meet on Friday to discuss a successor to Fabio Capello with a preference for an "English or British" manager.
FA chairman David Bernstein said he expected "to move quickly" but refused to comment on rumours linking Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp with the vacancy."No he will not definitely be English," added Bernstein.

"Clearly there is a preference for an Englishman or a British person but in the end we want the best person. I am certainly not prepared to rule out anything but an Englishman or British person would have a good start."

Loving the joined up thinking there. No wonder they found Luis Suarez to be guilty of racist conduct....

I doubt Martin O'Neill would consider himself to be British.

Norn Iron isn't in Britain.

But Hope Powell fits the bill.

You'd have to ask the manager that question. I know people who would describe themselves as English but not British. Nationality is about identity as well as legality.

Druidh, c'mon man, you know what he is saying albeit it clumsily. Read it out loud a few times and change the emphasis on different words.

I'm down with Hope Powell, she is black, english, female and gay, it would turn english football on its head.

its obvious he mean english or someone form thee isles Druidh.... you would be stretching a point to breaking IMHO to claim he is saying that someone english is not british

the point is we can all name mangers/people who are british but not english and that was obviously the point being made.

🙂

Ok - here's your next conundrum:

Name the last Englishman to manage the English Premier League winning team.

Is your question deliberately misleading, druid?

No English manager has won the Prem, but Howard Wilkinson was last 1st Div winner and Ray Harford managed Blackburn after they had won.
