I've been a huge fan of Gaiman's novels for a long time, but I've never even tried his Sandman stuff: Is it worth it? The thing is, I like novels, not comics, which has always put me off.
Its worth it for Death alone...
+1 for eddiebaby's comment. Gaiman's storytelling and characters make Sandman and its universe really good comic book fare. You'll also want to check out The Books of Magic.
The Sandman series are collected into graphic novels, try to think of them as books with pictures in, or maybe a movie screenplay.
Death: The High Cost of Living is highly readable, but Gaiman's Endless are just beautiful things to read.
I liked it but I grew up reading comics. Particularly liked the stand-off between Sandman and Lucifer, though it reminded me of that fight between Merlin and the witch in The Sword And The Stone.
If you've attempted reading comics and found it wasn't your cuppachar then you probably won't enjoy it.
I like novels, not comics, which has always put me off.
I guess this is the decider...
Why not pop down to your local library and check out the 'collected' versions
