Hi Guys

Me and some of my colleagues are trying to raise sponsorship for our 100k Oxfam walk in July, the trouble we have is that having done it last year it is hard to persuade people to sponsor us again so we need to think of imaginitive ways to persuade people to give their money to charity.

We had a curry night and sold tickets and raised some cash, we will be doing a World Cup sweepstake, and possible a quiz night if we can find a pub that will let us use a space for free.

Any ideas on other things we could do/ what have you done in the past that has been sucessful?

Cheers
Steve

I am raising money for London to Paris with Action Medical Research, we did a quiz night this weekend.

Got the local village hall - no charge as it was for charity, bought two cases of beer, some wine and some strongbow which we gave away in exchange for a donation of a pound a can or a fiver for a bottle of wine (obviously we did not sell the wine and beer as that would have been against the law)

About thirty people turned up did small raffle as well as the quiz and raised just over three hundred quid after expenses.

It was a great night and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We had tried to go down the find a pub who will give us a room for free but route nobody seemed interested.

I have done a fair bit of fundraising for Macmillan.

Most of the funds I have raised have been from venue collections. I wrote to a number of supermarkets and other venues to ask permission to collect for a day/weekend. I got hold of collection buckets, leaflets, stickers etc from my local Macmillan Fundraiser and I would sit on a turbo trainer/rollers whilst others collected. Luckily I had a good team of friends & family to help on the days.

On average I raised around £800 - £1k per day. The most in a day came from a garden centre collection on the day the Santa's Grotto opened. I think we raised about £1,500.

selling chocolates and junk food at work is the standard here (Oz). Walk into any office kitchen and chances are there will be a box of chocolate bars beside an honesty box and a sign advertising the charity / worthy cause. My office isn't big but I brought a box of chocs in today and sold the lot. I made $50 for my son's playgroup (minus what they paid for them).
I'm the second person this week to do it and it's Wednesday. Not really appropriate if the good cause is weight watchers but I've known folk to raise a lot of money. So if you can get some supplies wholesale it might be an option?
