Hi Chaps,
My nextdoor neighbour has fried his laptop drive, along with the ram... possibly other parts too.
I've tried mounting the drive through a 2.5 caddy, but no joy.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to tackle this?

you sure these bits are fried?
what happens when the machine is turned on?
stick the hard drive in a computer
run ultimate boot CD
run ranish partition manager or another tool on there.. see whats going on with the file system at a low level
run the hard drive diagnostic tool from UBCD for your HD manufacturer
run memtest86 on the RAM
