Anyone know of a good free online fax service that won't spam me if I give my details. My insurance company are trying to wriggle out of a claim and they won't accept emails only faxes!

Try your local Post Office or copy shop. Many offer this as a service.

Assuming this still works, it's years since I tried it; send an email to remote-printer.[firstname]_[lastname]@[IDD number].iddd.tpc.int

Eg, to send to Joe Bloggs on 07890 123456 it'd be remote-printer.Joe_Bloggs@448790123456.iddd.tpc.int

EDIT: just tested it and it looks like it's dead. Ignore that.

If it's a one-time, one-way fax, just set up a new disposable gmail or hotmail a/c and don't put in correct personal details when you sign up for a free fax service.

Microsoft used to have a fax from PC facility as part of windows or office - it might take some looking for but it's probably still there

Yeah, you'd need a modem for that though.

Not free for UK faxes but the following service offers fairly cheap pay per use via PayPal

Thanks for the tips.

Set up disposable email then signed up with faxonline.co.uk. I have no idea if the insurance company received my fax, but expect they will ignore it anyway.
