I have a SWB ford transit that is provided by my employer so i pay tax on it as a van.
But im looking to fit a second row of seats and wonder if this will alter the class and tax code.
I looked on the HM customs webby and it states that provided no more than half the dedicated load carrying area is not used the tax class will not change.
It does not however state if this includes the original front seating area.
Any info would be great. 😀

So if you have a 3 metre load space, you can only use 1.5 metres for your rear seating.
Probably want to budget for a couple of bonded windows as it won't be nice for passengers if they can't see out 🙂
be wary of two things.
proper seatbelt mounting points.
proper floor mounting and load spreading for the seat bases.
miss these two and you have a recipe for disaster.

I have emailed HM Customs and spoke to them on the phone.
Provided i dond use more than half the dedicated load carrying area of the van (the main box part) it will not need re clasifacation.
The area does not need to include the front seating area.
As for the seats i have the correct spreader plates and they have built in three point seatbelts. 😀
dont forget to sort on insurance. standard vans have 3 seat limit normally.
obviously the more seats the more whiplash/no win no fee style claims issues.
Decent bulkhead between cargo area & passenger area to stop the load sliding forward and decapitating passengers.
