I also wouldn’t pay that for a 5 year old frame, with no shock, and that amount of “cosmetic” crash damage

He’s had “several different carbon fibre specialists” tell him it’s fine. No specifics and no paperwork offered, but i’m sure it’s fine…
Epic hell no from me! £200 maybe at a push for a 6 year old battered frame with no shock.

if it had a written report from said carbon fibre specialists... maybe
but why did he take it to several specialists? why would you do that, if number one says its fine.. job done... if you go to a second you don't trust the report of the first...
regardless, id have certainly sorted the paint out if it was just paint damage
And how does that damage happen? surely it bust be a heavy front end crash putting a load through the top tube.. if it enough to damage the paint/gel coat whatever.. then its enough to delaminate the cf underneath surely
It's a hard no from me, that top tube looks 'not good'!

On a similar note, there was a lad trying to sell an Orange frame with "a crack in the usual place" on one of the owners groups the other day, claiming it still rode fine.
It was only a couple of hundred under the going rate 😀
Ride? Yes no problem. Probably for a few years yet if I'd done the damage.
Buy? Not a chance.

That crush fracture in the top tube looks nicely placed to fail, fold the frame in half and shoot jagged shards of carbon into your crotch area.

As has been said, if a carbon fiber ‘specialist’ has seen it, he’ll have had to sent it to them as there won’t be any in his area. In which case he’ll have some kind of correspondence saying it’s safe to ride.
No. Looks like a bars hit the top tube or a crush in a work stand injury. Sure it can be fixed without any issues, but I'd not be riding it without having it repaired first.
Nope - ripe for a repair. But that's too pricey for the buyer to cover that cost.
Nah, I'd take it off his hands if it was taking up space...Wouldn't pay much [if any] cash for it, and certainly not £650.00. To my mind that's £75-100 tops.

obvioulsy a well used frame, but as others have said, the top tube has been crushed at some point either in a stand or a rack. the paint cracks, if there are no carbon cracks on that tube, suggest a lot of flex from clamping. I can't think of any other way that paint woud crack along the length like that. I think it's reasonable to think that there will be damage on the inside of that, which you'll only know about when your face hits the dirt.
it's a strong pass, unless you know a pro repair place who will replace the top tube section.
Buy? No not at that price with no shock...
200 maybe, take to repair place, even then, with paint, it's prob gonna work out at a similar price to an undamaged frame with a shock.

Lots of high-end boat and aircraft specialists that'll deal with carbon fibre repairs, no bike frame specialists I know of though.
That's a nope from me, a double nope at that price.
I'm no expert, but my gut reaction would be "if that's the visible damage, what else is there that we can't see?"
One of mine sustained similar-looking wear damage to its seat stay as is on that swing arm after being loaded badly on the back of a Land Rover on an uplift service (IIRC at Laggan).
I wouldn't even touch it if he was giving it away. Too much damage.

In mint condition a 650b frame without shock isn't worth £650 these days. In that condition I guess someone might part with £150 and take the risk, but I'd sooner find something else and not have to worry.
