so heading down to Ambleside for a week's hol the week after next - Me, the wife and 2 boys aged 5 and 8. The wife doesn't ride, but me and the eldest will have our bikes and will do some pootles around during the day. I was thinking about speaking to the Biketrek guys to sneak out on an evening midweek ride too while wife and weans amuse themselves.

So apart from some rides, and a bit of on foot exploring, any 'must do's' , particularly for the kids ?

Thanks in advance

South Lakes wild animal park. Bit of a drive but worth it. My kids love it.

Roughty Touftys soft play area in Ambleside, Kendal Climbing Wall, (Lakeland Climbing Centre,) or Kendal swimming pool if the weather really craps out.

The cinema in Ambleside is nice as well, quaint if you are used to the big multiplex jobbies!

Park at the Cafe / Slate Factory at Skelwith bridge and walk along the path to the Britannia Inn at Elterwater for lunch.

Leighton Moss is worth a visit if you are going to the South Lakes wild animal park.

Whinlatter just down the road....maybe not too good for non-riding wife (in the cycling sense) and kids though but if you get a couple of hours spare....

Crazy golf in Ambleside town centre. Nip over to Coniston and hire a boat or have a ride on the Gondola and a "Brantwich" at Brantwood.

Cathedral caves over near Tilberthwaite would be good for the kids, has a long unlit tunnel and some goldfish in a natural pool. All a bit lord of the rings and whilst there you could threaten (or even carry out a threat) to chuck your kids off the top of Hodge close! 😉
