Thinking of places to go with sights that look like something out of a fantasy novel or fairy tale.

Budapest
Vienna
Carcasonne
Tallinn
Jodhpur

Other ideas...?

Tricky one.

I've always thought that Machu Picchu looks pretty special.

yep anything Ludwig had a go at, anywhere in the deep dark bavarian woods for something scary and I'm guessing eastern europe has the winters that we allegedly used to have

We have been to Neuschwanstein.. Well we went up to it but it coat way too much to get in, and was horrifically busy. Plus, it's a fake.

No molgrips, I can assure you it's made from real stone, real wood and real gold. Or are you saying it's not a real fairy tale castle?

Romantic folly by mad king, barely 100 years old, that became nothing more than a tourist attraction almost as soon as it was built.. Doesn't do it for me..

Oh, and,

I've been to Carcassonne (and played the Carcassonne board game there). It's lovely, you should go.
