3rd time in 5 races that Lewis has turned in on someone whilst overtaking. Two of those ended in a collision, the last the other person got out of the way.

I think that was all decided quite a while ago. It probably sponsorship and the 2 upcoming US races that keeping in that seat.

Also Perez has shown that he on longer deserves that Red Bull seat. Was it 3 track limit infringements this race? A very mediocre second half of the season.

On a positive note, its great to see Piastri on the podium again. Repays the faith that McLaren had in him and another potential future world champion on the grid.

FFS – not watched F1 in quite a while (doing other stuff on weekends), recently upgraded to Sky Glass, turned it on about 5.50pm ready for this and… I have to buy the entire Sky Sports package at £27/month if I want to watch F1. **** that!

Previously, on my old Box, F1 came as part of the HD package which was fine. No way am I upgrading to a whole load of football channels that I have zero interest in just to watch the few remaining F1 races.

Argue harder - this happened to me in March and with a few stern phone calls I had F1 added. I now have Eurosport, F1 and "Main Event" only. They can give you anything they want, they just don't want to.

Because we had had sky for so long when we canceled sports a while back we kept F1 as it was a legacy thing. Not sure the exact working on it though.

If you changed the name of the account holder for a better deal you might not get that though

Checo is going to get all the support RB can give. . . He’s done for, isn’t he?

Omg he's 100% out.

To be fair, I think Checo and Max has been one of their more successful pairings? He's been there since 2021, and for the most part has kept pace with Max. I can't help feeling that Red Bull's reaction to him being a genuine title contender at the start of the season has resulted in him losing all motivation

Can't remember the last time Red Bull managed to have a harmonious driver pairing.

the last time Red Bull managed to have a harmonious driver pairing …

…was probably the last time they were nowhere near a title hunt, so 2008. But the issue at the moment isn’t really lack of harmony, it’s that Perez just isn’t delivering, which is in stark contrast to the first few races. I don’t think that’s causing Max any disharmony whatsoever 🙂

TBH I don't know how Perez has lasted so long in F1, he holds both [dubious] records for number of GP before and pole position (215) and number of races before a win (190) he was criticised by Button for driving aggressively and banging wheels and Raikkonen thought he should be "punched in the face" for his overtaking style, and then again in 2018 for colliding with Ocon when they were driving for Force India. It seems to be a consistent approach.

Bernie Ecclestone, the former boss of Formula One, has admitted fraud after failing to declare more than £400m held in a trust in Singapore.

"Oh my goodness, what a surprise, I would never have thought Bernie capable"

Said no one ever when discussing Ecclestone's money

😀 The surprising thing is admitting it! Although like the comments he made about Massa/Hamilton recently, in a few days he'll probably just "have no recollection" of doing so.

Mleh, He's in his 90's isn't he? He's got more legitimately made money than he can ever spend . I'd have thought that with a reported wealth of 2.9Billion it's not going to make that much difference now.

Not looking good for Perez....alleged quote from Marko:

Perez needs a change of climate and team. Now we’ll see how the next two races go. But the team and he are aware that he is in a crisis.”

Twodogs

He's been in full rabbit-in-the-headlights mode for about the last 5 races, saying stuff like this in public just makes it worse. Nobody can flourish under this kind of pressure. Look at how different Albon is at Williams.

Typical red bull second seat problems really!

Still got wins and poles though. Plenty never make that.

Then there's the oft repeated story of the Brabham water tanks (illegal at the time) being used to smuggle cocaine (either into or out of, I can't remember) the Brazilian GP to pay off some debt (or agreement, the story changes) made by Nelson Piquet.

Those were the days etc etc..

Yup, just took longer to get there as they started with a more experienced driver this time

The story I like is the one about the Great Train Robbery - the getaway driver, Roy James, later worked for Ecclestone making trophies. Ecclestone dismissed rumours that he'd actually been involved in the robbery with, "There wasn't enough money in it."

Shirley Red Bull must be able to see the pattern themselves? Perez was absolutely bossing it at the start of the season, and they have some how managed to turn him in to Lance Stroll by the tail end of the season.

I guess with Max so far in front and both championships in the bag they just don't care.

I think the whole 2nd seat issue is in fact entirely cantered around Max. He is at the same time; a blessing and a curse. As a product of their (at the time unique) driver school/academy system the fact that he's obviously a hugely gifted driver, makes both any team mate an obvious 2nd place, and his eventual replacement a massive issue. There just hasn't been anyone in the RB driver academy anything like as talented since, and now near enough every team has replicated the system making the pool of available driver smaller. Plus who'd want to be in the second seat anyway with the Verstappen's glowering across the garage at you? A poisoned chalice that Sainz, Gasly, Albon, Ricciardo, and now Perez have all been chewed up and spat out of (excuse my mixed metaphors)

From reddit and since deleted

And that was it. Of course the table had questions and comments but this person claimed that was all he knew, that this was all he has told by someone still inside Escudería Telmex.
Now, could this person make it all up in the spot to become the center of attention of the group for a few minutes? I mean, I guess he could have. He was certainly the center of attention while telling us all of the above. Being there at the time, knowing who he is and who he knows, I believed him.
---
So, that's basically it. Take it with a grain of salt of course, I am no one with influence or "connections". I just happened to be there at the track with a group of friends, 2 of which knew this guy very well from years past. That's why they joined our group for dinner. Beyond what I've already written, I don't think there's much more for me to tell, If anything.

Could we have a good race, and different winner, or will it be the usual RB snoozefest?

I think the Ferraris and McLarens are there or there abouts now to RB, and the Merc is just a shade behind. On this track, it could be a good race.

Looking good for the Sprint. Less than 0.055 seconds separated the top four.

The Mercedes is looking really competitive.

When MV decided to show what pace RB were hiding, it was really quite demoralising. 2 seconds in 1 lap and 8 seconds in the last 6…on quite worn tyres.

If they truly have an almost 2 second advantage over the car in front, Max will be P1 inside of 10 laps.

https://businessf1magazine.com/october-2023-issue/

I came across this at a car showroom. Some quite interesting articles on the business side of the sport and a funny article on the personal logos of the drivers with an analysis of the current grid: Kevin Magnussen "if the font was ever given a name it would be called "illiterate", Nico Hulkenburg (a black oblong!) "has given up and recognised the futility of a driver's logo" etc

I’m amazed none of the front rows this season haven’t taken one for the team and driven him off the track, not full on ramming, just enough to ruin his chances of winning…
