Is it dodgy? Any scams going on?

Looking at these people:

Dunno.

Are they a heap cheaper?
Have you looked on OneStopDigital?? Ship from Hong Kong, but come well recommended on quite a few forums. And can be quite a lot cheaper than UK prices.

Have used digtalrev for a few hard to source items. Brilliant blokes and amazing store but always got charged VAT plus 13.5% import duty, and depending on the courier company their customs clearance fee. Negates any cost advantage.

U may get lucky and something will slip through ... im just not lucky!

Bummer.

I know that OneStopDigital do a guarantee on their stuff that if you get charged VAT on anything coming into your country then they will refund you the charges when you send them the VAT receipt.

Hmm. There was a HK lens for £150, I think that's gone now though, one from the US for £160 and one from Ireland for £175.

Alot of less honest importer will declare items as gifts or of below threshold value to avoid charges. Does get ropey if hmrc get hold of it, or if anything goes wrong with postage as insurance would also be under declared.

Even as gifts u may still get nailed (xmas presents from nz this year did ... still arguing it out with parcelforce who refuse to hand over items unless u pay the surcharge on the spot)

I've used Jackar Optical on ebay twice this year. They're in Hong Kong. Brought a Fisheye lense and a set of macro lenses. Didn't get stung for any extra charges and I can't fault the delivery time, prices or the quaility of what I brought.

Would certainly use again.

I could fence the US one through my in-laws but it's probably not worth it. The Ireland one looks good.

I've bought plenty of photographic stuff from various HK shops. Only the smaller stuff like lens caps and memory cards were of dubious parentage. I now only buy memory cards from approved UK dealers.

One Stop Digital are really good - used them a few times. No use to the OP though sorry.

The general rule I follow is if you buy from HK etc is generally only buy if it would still be a bargain including import duty and fees etc. The exception is One Stop Digital though as they promise to pay back any fees incurred (and apparently they do honour it).
