Have been in "the rooms" it wasnt bad ,other than that it seens to be mostly chains up there though in the town - Filling station , about a billion derivetives of wetherspoons

Anyone got any secrets for good food ? - that is filling as im doing a few miles tomorrow 😀 - not cordon bleu heston bluementhal presentation shite

If you are prepared to drive, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Dalrachney lodge down in Carrbridge. We've eaten there twice (only been up that way twice!) and both times the food has been just brilliant. We ate in the bar rather than the restaurant

The Inverness Harry Ramsdens was voted Britain's best chippy. Sounds implausible, but if you are up for a fish supper ...

mmm jimmy chungs .... bit like binge drinking for food - informal in as much as that when sat at your table your sat also at the tables of the folk to your left and to your right ....reminds me of battery hens

Shall put across hootanannys - thats just opposite the room

The Mustard Seed - Slightly pricy for dinner but excellent quality. Mustard Seed Restaurant

The Corner Grill - 50 union street, not far from hootenanys and do good steaks etc

Sam's Indian restaurant - Just round the corner from Hootenanys and imo the best Indian in town.

La Tortilla, not bad tapas restaurant just across from the castle.

Aye the Mustard Seed's not bad and if it's sunny (unlikely) you might even get to sit out on the balcony. Just promise not to go to Harley's Bar (if it still exists). Worst. Food. Ever. And service. And everything's covered in a layer of minging, stale grease.

I second the Mustard Seed. Very good.
Cafe 1 gets good reviews too but I wasn't so impressed the last time I was there.
Hoots is also good for Thai as said above.
And apparently Riva is good value and good italian food.

Rocpool and Kingsmill hotel are good, I know the head chefs at both restaurants so I may be a bit biased.

1. Rocpool (not Rocpool Reserve - they are different restaurants) in the city centre is very, very good. The owner/chef, Steven Devlin knows his food and knows how to run a restaurant. Highly recommended, although it does come at a price.

2. Cafe 1. Also central, and also highly recommended. The owner/chef, Norman is an Inverness institution!

3. Contrast at Glenmorison Hotel (not Abstract). Lovely setting on the river, and it also has a nice bar.

I would also agree with recommendations for the Mustard Seed and Riva.

If you are willing to drive a wee bit, the Dores Inn on the banks of Loch Ness is also very good and has a particularly dramatic setting.

There are quite a few others, but I think that is a good selection. Oh yeah, I also agree with Hoots for Thai food and great beer and banter!

If you like curry, Cinnamon, opposite Morrisons next to the Eastgate Centre is one of the best up this way, only beaten by the Bengal Brasserie in "Sunny Buckie By the Sea" which is amazing and as good as any 'front room' authentic curry house in Leeds or Manchester that I've been to.

Alternatively have a Clif bar with the boys at Highland Cycles, they may even make you a cuppa.

Whats the audax?

I'm on a 100miler road mission tomorrow with some mentalists!

Hi Jo 😉 Will need to give the cinnamon a visit some time. Always seem to forget about it!

Has to be the Castle Restaurant, my folks used to take me there when I was wee, now I take my kids, everything comes with chips, I always go for the sausage, bacon, egg and chips, my wife rates the steak pie, have seen the que out the door at lunch time, it's been pretty much the same in the 30 odd years I can remember, love it!

Contrast at the Glenmoriston Townhouse, if you like that then try Abstract which is a bit pricier and more fancy.

Avoid ASH like the plague the food is dreadful.

Another vote for Hoots or the Castle Street here. Number 27 is also really good for food with the added bonus of Leffe and Hoegaarden on tap.
