You may (or may not) be interested to know that recently (last 6 months or so) a moderate El Nino has been building in the Pacific. Moderate El Nino's are signified by a surface sea temperate rise of about 0.6-1.0 deg, which is where we're at now. Some climate scientist are suggesting that it could deepen further, (increased surface temps)
All very interesting, I'm sure you're saying, but what does it mean for us? Well, in the short term, European forecasts are a bit tricky, but it could mean warmer temperatures (the last El Nino in 2006/7 saw the highest UK temps over the year) so a hot late summer, and, maybe not so nice, a wetter and warmer autumn and winter.
