i read an interview with that R1 DJ who's big into dubstep (is it Mary-Ann Hobbs?) and it described the music. I thought it sounded good (from the description) but have yet to be convinced by the actual music.

I bumped into Mary-Ann Hobbs at a dubstep night at Fabric a few years ago. It is like all forms of music, there are some absolute belting records then some which sound like a deaf man made them.

If you want a good introduction to it, buy the 'Beatdown' album by Scrach Perverts.

Over 30 tracks with a good variation of the dubbed variety.

Yeah, not really feeling the original track posted. I've listened to it a few times at first and I start of liking it but I quickly feel like it's going nowhere and indeed it ends up just repeating itself.
I've always liked evil dark music, but just not feeling this track.. 🙁

I shouldn't shamelessly plug my mates, but they're pretty sound. Roke's quite into his mountain biking, although he is a bit of a wierd one sometimes.

Dirty drug music. But not worked out which drug it works best with. E is too lively, coke too moody and weed just too sit down.

So, whether we are liking or feeling it, has anybody decided what dubstep is? Should I click on any of those YouTube links above or are they just somebody's mate and not really dubstep? What happened to New Jack Swing?

Ketamine is too dribbly for the dancefloor. I reckon good old booze might be making a come back.

Ketamine is more for yer actual 'wonky', apparently.. clicky

There's a really interesting family tree diagram showing the musical links and origins of dubstep, but I can't find it at the mo.

But people don't really dance to dubstep, they just sway around. 😉

I do like the odd tune but it's the most overhyped, overrated genre going imo.

Dubstep is about the 2nd nerdiest sub-genre of music around (mathrock being the 1st). On the other hand, it's quite good 🙂

Sure theres a lot of rubbish falling into the dubstep category, but I've never liked everything in any genre, just the stuff that moves me.

Isn't "quite good" the worst thing you can say about any music??

Not really. Theres lots worse to be said about lots of kinds of music. Put it this way, I'm happy going to dubstep events, not so much with lots of other music.
