If I were to use the basic free storage, would anyone I wanted be able to download the files that I place there? OR do all potential users have to set something up at their end?

In an ideal world I'd just like them to be able to enter a web address, sign in and download.

Thanks

you can share folder links with people, they don't need a login to download.

like this:

Its very easy to share.

You send them a link which you get by right clicking on a file. You can only link one file at a time rather link to a folder, for multiple files just zip them up and link to that. They don't need any special software.

Yes. But it isn't a straight cut'n'paste. Probably best to google instructions (or just use imgur)

I've got a public folder in mine, I can put images in that and then get a public link and I'll be able to post a picture on here.

Unless they've changed it recently, no. At least, not easily.

Supplementary question please. If I share folders as described above - can others submit files and put them in that folder as well? That is to say change a document and update it or put an entirely new document/file in there?

yes, it's a live folder, if you edit the folder in the dropbox, the folder will update, see above, I've added a blurry image and deleted another.

The dropbox links might expire though, not sure about that.

There are other was to share beyond that.

I thought they had removed the shared folder for new users and the only way to share whole folders was to both have a dropbox account. If you do both have an account then sharing is easy. You can give full edit permission or read only. Don't think you can do that if they don't have an account but things keep changing so I might be out of date. As above single file sharing is simple without anything installed at the other end.

If you want an easy disposable way to upload pics for embedding here then try http://postimage.org/ - that's what I use.
Upload. Get link. Done. No account required.

Does it work for me?:[img] [/img]

EDIT looks like it. But only from other folders if I manually edit the link as described here: http://forum.worldoftanks.asia/index.php?/topic/28655-allow-dropbox-image-urls/.

Honestly, postimage, much easier and doesn't eat your dropbox quota. Try it.

Yep. I usually use Imgur which does the same thing very easily. just trying out a new thing of answering the question answered rather than giving a better answer to a different question. I will go back to proper STW method for other posts though 🙂

Ppffft.. what's the point in that? If he wanted a proper answer he'd have asked google. 😀

If you or anyone you know is going to register with Dropbox it is well worth doing a referral as then both of you will get 500Mb extra space. You can increase your free allowance by up to 16Gb if you get enough people to sign up!
