When they say 500MB or 1GB of internet on your contract, is that the amount you can download a month or is that browsing cache that is built up from viewing pages etc?

actual up/download of data, not cache.
oh and anythign on a wi-fi connection doesn't count.

That's your download - and your upload too! There will be a usage panel somewhere on your phone to tell you. If you were to send a load of emails or upload a large video file to facebook, that will impact your allowance too.

Download the 3G watchdog app. It will keep an eye on your monthly usage.
