If he can't run for re-election, I assume pence would be the republican candidate. I imagine he's far more likely to win than trump.
I'd much rather see trump run than pence. The latter is a horrible, religious nutter, with a far better chance of winning.

I don't think so. Turnout will be the issue, as the Repubs relies more heavily on in-person voting. The Trump Death Cult might also prefer to let Pence fail and set up Don Jr or Ivanka for 2024.
What happens to mail-in votes that have already been cast for Trump?

According to the Guardian, different in the US. You're voting for the person, not the party?
'In a worst-case scenario involving death or permanent incapacitation before the election, the US would face an unprecedented electoral crisis.
Unlike in some other countries – such as the UK – Americans vote for an individual on the ballot for president, not for a party. For example there may be Republican and independent voters in this circumstance who would reject Trump but would be happy to vote for Pence, if he were the candidate.
Therefore in circumstances where Trump was taken off the ballot the vote would become deeply undemocratic, as Pence was never voted on as the presidential nominee via the process of primaries, which took place in the spring.'
"What happens to mail-in votes that have already been cast for Trump?"
Nobody knows.
The 25th Amendment only covers what happens if a President has to relinqusih power due to ill health, death or other factor, BUT NOT when he is a 'presidential canditate' i.e Trump has to hand over the remainder of the presidency to Pence, but Pence does not automatically qualify for the ballot paper. If we were several months out from the election this wouldn't be an issue but as people have already started voting using postal ballot and all the ballot papers have been mailed to the various states its a massive problem.
Couple this to a situation where there is already huge domestic unrest and a willingness to contest even a straightforwad result and we get to a situation where you better hope the president pulls through....
According to the Guardian, different in the US. You’re voting for the person, not the party?
Not exactly in a presidential election. Each voter does vote for the person they want to be president, but the president is actually elected by the electoral college. Each state sends delegates to the electoral college equal to the combined number of congress and senate seats the state has. Each state chooses how the electoral college electors are chosen, but nearly all award all the electoral college places to the party of the candidate with the highest share of the vote in that state. The political party then chooses electors to vote for the presidential candidate, so the party actually has a major role in this.
Occasionally, an elector votes for a different candidate than they were supposed to. Different states have different rules about whether this is legal, but there's nothing that can be done to prevent it. If Trump has to withdraw, the Republican Party can instruct their electors to vote for Mike Pence for President instead of Trump. Nobody is going to try enforcing a rule saying they are bound to vote only for Trump, so this is not the big issue that people think it is. Even if both Trump and Pence were to die of Covid, the Republican Party could nominate two new candidates and the election would continue with Trump-Pence on the ballot.
The electoral college system is deeply flawed and there have been calls to overhaul it and replace it with a system where whoever wins the national vote is automatically President, but that would require major constitutional changes. Republicans will never agree to that because they dominate in small rural states (which have the same number of senators as large states, hence carry more weight in the electoral college).
I’ve nothing to say other than he’s a hateful arsehole who deserves everything he get.

couldn't even social distance the chairs.... the interweb are playing covid bingo, also seems it might be Melania that gave it to Donald.
Oh, it turns out that it's actually a devilishly clever plan to put Hillary Clinton behind bars. (Either that or Twitter is full of lunatic conspiracy nutters.)
I find it difficult to rustle up any sympathy for someone who, as POTUS has pretty much access to the best advice available on Covid, ignored what was being said (and publicly berated others for their adherence) having to live with the consequences of their own personal decisions and actions. Hell, it would be positively un-American to think anything else (as in pure socialism)
It might be helpful, from a public health perspective, that it’s better such a high profile anti-protection measures-ist actually suffer real consequences in order to make the people he’s influenced to maybe rethink their own strategy in covid prevention...

Pretty sure that's the way it's meant to work in the UK - you vote for an individual MP. The fact that they are already banded together into political parties, and the leader of the party with the most seats becomes PM, is an unfortunate side effect which then distorts the whole process.
He certainly stopped making sense quite a while back.
Deserves highlighting ! lol
Anyhoo, I hope he recovers well.
I certainly would want to align myself with the "compassion" shown by some of the "compassionate" posters mentioned in other threads.

Another is pinching other people's jokes!
Of course he’s not faking it.
Judging by his past action regarding this pandemic, the first sign of him taking it seriously is after some "bad for numbers" performance on TV debating and what better way to do that than by showing how big and strong he is and how he kicked "Kung Flu" all the way back to "Chyiiiina"
Nothing would surprise me anymore

Man, your posts are TL;DR... and I stole it from somewhere else actually... 😂🤪
Apparently Putin rang Trump and told him to relax and concentrate on getting better, the Russians would sort out the election for him..............
Judging by all the tweets the yanks (of both flavours) don't half like a good pray, followed by a public declaration that they've had a good pray. 209,000 down and counting - that there prayin' is working a treat.
I've changed my mind. As much as I'd like Trump to die a horrible death because he is a horrible human being with way too much power and influence for a horrible human being; I've had a think and on balance if he could survive just long enough to get voted out of office it would make all this a bit tidier. I've no faith that justice of the official kind (the boring, sending him to a holiday camp kind) will ever catch up with him so a bit more terminal karma in the future would be fine by me too.
So pray for Trump y'all.
White House statement at 4 o’clock GMT.
Some folks on social suspect he was using an oxygen concentrator when he walked to Marine 1. He had something in his jacket pocket, and you could see a tube behind his ear and face mask.
He won't have died that fast.
Don't want him to succumb to it either as I want to see him lose the election and then have to answer all the lawsuits against him. Then he can shuffle off if he wants to.
Dr Ronnie Jackson (hick) had him down to live for 200 years so he still might have a chance of getting out on parole. Having said that, he's 74, senile, stumbles, is obese and low-income (going by his tax returns) and he's got a sickly pallor.
As much as I might want him to die (sorry!), I don't think that happening would result in a postivie outcome. Given the current state of division in the US his death could be a tipping point. It'll cause chaos with the election and massively increase divisions to the point where they might not be able to resolve the deadlock peacefully. And that's without considering the influence of outside forces who will be looking to take advantage. Sounds daft but it reminds me of the death of Arch Duke Ferdinand.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Well, with the first part, if not the second.
Holy shit, that was some White House party. More disease transmission than New Zealand, Taiwan, and Vietnam combined.

One things food sure, we are seeing Darwin in action here.
Who to believe? 🤔 Both that tweet and this are from CBS...

I think it's all part Melania's big plans,if tiny hands doesn't make it she can go full Ice Queen on the Trump family fortune . 🙂
She will never look as good as Tilda though.

Mark Meadows has now gone on record for the 'concerning vitals, next 48 hours are critical' comment. Dr. Conley has tried to wind back the comments he made today about the timeline, with Trump being diagnosed on Weds, rather than late Thurs. Another source has now said Trump IS on oxygen, Conley says he isn't. WTF is going on?
They haven't read the briefing.
better hope none those 18 donors at the round table caught it from him and die.
I saw somewhere that death rates in spain for that age range has fallen from about 15% at the start to around 6% now.
So, probably he'll be fine. Which is actually a good thing.

He has the best weight.
I Though hancock was good at dodging questions this is something else. Listen to the Dr dodge the did he get oxygen question.

So only a 1 in 19 chance the "leader of the free world"* is gonna die**? Seems pretty crazy to me that there's even a remote chance of him dying in the next week or so. Notwithstanding the far greater number who have a prolonged hospital stay, complications, incomplete recovery etc etc. This has the potential to have a seismic effect on the presidential race.
I think politically the worst thing would be if he died and was 'martyred' by his moronic cult. Hopefully he'll survive but weakened and with his whole Covid strategy revealed to everyone as negligent.
*lol
**not lol

I know what you're getting at but Ferdinand was shot by foreign terrorists from a non-allied country. And the US has a protocol for death of a President - that's what VPs are for.
I think politically the worst thing would be if he died and was ‘martyred’ by his moronic cult.
The cultists are a very small minority. Most of his supporters are just gullible fools. The alt-right groups are totally fragmented so they'll just dissipate, unless there's another president prepared to court them.
Well as of three hours ago he was still able to tweet..........or one of his lackeys was able to do it for him
Yeah you don't know if that's actually him tweeting. And it happened very soon after the lack of tweets was brought up publicly.....
Whitehouse responsible for >50% of all new cases in Washington DC in last 24hrs
Several republicans he's met been snapped going home on planes with no masks
This could play badly for trump, I do hope he recovers as much as I despise the man
The voters need to make him a loser
Like Johnson & the rest of parliament they genuinely seen to think rules don't apply to them
Whitehouse certainly crusading in its attempt to get herd immunity in the USA off to a good start this autumn...
