Of course they can both be true. She can intend one thing and actually do another. Both would be very stupid in this situation though.
So if I swerve out of the way to avoid a cyclist in the road, am I driving at them or trying to avoid them?
She definitely drove at the ICE agent, you can see him jump aside. She was turning so probably just intending to get away, but she had been told to get out of the car - so the correct course of action was to get out of the car and avoid getting shot.
You have form for writing bullshit but to claim ”she definitely drove at the ice agent” should get you a big gold star from your maga handler.
I’ve said it before but worth repeating “gravedigger by name, gravedigger by nature”
So if I swerve out of the way to avoid a cyclist in the road, am I driving at them or trying to avoid them?
You're a "domestic terrorist" and deserve to be shot.
You're a "domestic terrorist" and deserve to be shot.
Guilty as charged. Well, I would be if there was any kind of due process involved, rather than being shot dead because.
Her wheels were spinning before she was shot and she clearly wasn't in proper control of the SUV. Just because ICE aren't the god guys doesn't mean she wasn't trying to use the SUV as a weapon.
Did that make sense when you typed it out? You say she wasn't in control of the car, but at the same time you deduce that she was trying to use it to kill someone? How can that be?
If they think she's a threat they should hardly just let her have the chance to try again.
You think the murderer continued shooting to prevent her from backing up and trying to run someone over?
She can by trying to do something but not be in control enough to do it. She might have been trying to just drive away and accidentally drove at him, or she might have been trying to hit him. We'll never know. If he thought she was trying to run him over then it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to think she might try again.
If she'd just stopped as asked then it's unlikely she now be dead.
If she'd just stopped as asked then it's unlikely she now be dead.
If the ICE Agent hadn't shot her without good reason, it's unlikely she'd be dead now.
If she'd just stopped as asked then it's unlikely she now be dead.
Or if she hadn't been wearing that short skirt, maybe she wouldn't have been raped.
Of course they can both be true. She can intend one thing and actually do another. Both would be very stupid in this situation though.

If a motorist close passes you, are they driving at you or trying to, and succeeding in avoiding you? Driving at or very close to armed men who've told you to stop, in a country with a history of gun violence is an odd thing to do. It may be she was just a normal driver with no spatial awareness who was distracted by her phone or dazzled by the sun.
If a motorist close passes you, are they driving at you or trying to, and succeeding in avoiding you?
Well, you tell me. In your experience, when a car got too close to you was it a deliberate attempt to kill you, or a mistake on their part?
It may be she was just a normal driver with no spatial awareness who was distracted by her phone or dazzled by the sun.
Or she may have been a normal person who acted hastily when attacked by armed lunatics and misjudged the distance to one of the thugs who was assaulting her.
Anyone who served in Northern Ireland and completed the NIRTT course will have watched that video and said the ICE agent was in the wrong. This exact scenario was covered quite a few times in the training for NI. A simple side step would have de-escalated the situation.
That’s my tuppence worth anyway
It beats me why anyone is even discussing this. He had no need to shoot her that's the bottom line.
What's depressing me, aside obviously from the loss of a young woman's life, is all the nasty lowlifes who now feel validated to voice their hateful opinions. In the past we had a few adults in the room that would temper this sort of language but with Trump in the Whitehouse, surrounded by his coterie of yes people, con-artists, chancers and zealots that's gone. All the hateful man-children (and it is mostly men) who have confused brutality and violence for strength all their lives are now coming out of the woodwork because this is their hour.
And that's the secret to Trump's popularity he validates all the pond life because that's what he is himself. Are you a sexist and misogynist? That used to be a problem didn't it? Not now there's one of you in the top job. Are you a racist? I mean it's not that bad being a racist is it because there's someone in the Oval office that shares your views. Are you a serial philanderer? Why this is positively encouraged in modern America! And so on...
Or if she hadn't been wearing that short skirt, maybe she wouldn't have been raped.
An agent would grab her by the pussy, if trump says it’s ok then it’s ok.
Or she may have been a normal person who acted hastily when attacked by armed lunatics and misjudged the distance to one of the thugs who was assaulting her.
I've seen so much comment on social media about how she could have acted in a more compliant fashion and not been shot. Aside from the pros who've had serious training and experience, anyone who says with confidence that they would act in a certain way in such a situation is a bloody fool.
If a motorist close passes you, are they driving at you or trying to, and succeeding in avoiding you?
The ICE Agent walked in front of the stationary car (from the rear offside, around the car, to the front nearside, about 36 inches from the hood). The driver pulled away, immediately swerving to the right to avoid the Agent. It doesn't come close to matching your "close pass" scenario, so it renders the comparison null and void. Thank you for your time in this matter.

There's a blast from the past. But I agree.
But I'm not sure these fellas get that level of stress testing if I'm honest mate, they're also operating with a different level of righteousness and dominance.
I don't know @Kilo area of expertise in the Police Force, but all of the training relevant to this sort of thing I've attended in my former field of work it was made very clear that people are known to do random and inexplicable things when you shout orders at them, a drawn or presented firearm can then compound that unpredictability, so you do need to be aware of the potential second and third order effects of your actions.
Shame all round to be honest, law enforcements' reputation takes another hit and a person is dead, all for what?
Somebody posted earlier that they rather hoped this might get investigated (like much of that needs to be done..) and tried at a state level so Minnesota has some control and it doesn't get whitewashed...
.....and thus as a surprise to precisely nobody: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/08/minneapolis-school-class-canceled-ice-killed-woman
How anyone here can justify an unarmed woman being shot in the face 3x for seemingly ignoring these SS ICE troopers is quite scary.
From what I have read she was legally observing the ICE agents to ensure they adhered to the powers they had. Maybe she knew , or assumed, they didn`t have the legal powers to make her get out of the car. There is earlier video evidence of her waving on other cars including the ICE vehicle to pass her, so she wasn`t even obstructing them.
Loads of videos of it now, and they clearly show the ICE thug clearly shoot her through the windscreen before being out of harms way and then stepping towards her and leaning into the car to shoot her another twice at presumably point blank range .. he walks off casually .. its chilling.
What makes it even worse is Trump and Noems response - its without doubt an execution.
vance is on air now doubling down on the ragebaiting
Strong 1930s vibes this week (even more than the previous 52 weeks).
Looks like everything is being taken out of state hands and becoming a federal case overseen in Washington, according to a Minnesota senator on channel 4 news
As he put it ‘and so the cover up begins’
Wasn't Donald Trump elected saying he’d put a stop to this kind of ‘Deep State’ over powerful central government thing?
When it suits, eh?
Yes, he did, but this is a great distraction from the lack of Epstein file releases.
Waltz gave a really impressive and moving press conference about 6.30 UK time, caught it while at my parents on BBC live news. Even my right wing parents are horrified by this, the Greenland thing, Trump in general...

For sure.
Even worse for me the shooter is clear of the car when he shoots.
Zero threat to the paramilitary from a car doing a single digit MPH - moving away from him.
Jacob Frey venting is emotionally charged honesty.
Waltz was the stand out performer in the bit of a mess the democrats made of the last election, I don't know how well he went down with the wider US public though.
oh I see stw's puritan swear filter wont even allow me to emote the state of the US politics in case I offend the sensibilities of a sunday school teacher.
sounds like the killer eas an Iraq veteran,
A mess, so shocking. My only hope is the Trump administration continues to defame the victim, and somebody funds getting the family a decent settlement to look after the kids. A bit like the Georgia election workers.

He went down well enough that a disgusting online campaign with targetted threats to his daughter and son caused him to pull out of standing for reelection.
The Poke have a clip of Vance on Fox news saying the deportation numbers will go up when ICE start going door to door.
How very 1930s...
Congress has got its shit together and has voted to prevent Trump from attacking Venezuela again, without their approval.

They need to add 194 more countries to that

Yes they voted, 52-47, but Trump would still need to sign it to make it law. So it's merely a symbolic gesture, do we think Trump will take note?
The war powers resolution was carried with 52 to 47 votes, as five Republicans joined the Democrats to back it. Another Republican declined to vote.
Their decision ensures a vote on the final passage of the legislation next week. But it has virtually no chance of becoming law because it would also need to be passed by the Republican majority House of Representatives.
It would also need to get two-thirds majorities in both the House and the Senate to survive an expected veto from Mr Trump.
Trump and his cabal simply don't care about laws
Oh well 🤷♂️
Feels like a slow burning movie building up to an explosive finale watching the news at the moment.
Just a question for you knowledgable ladies and gents, is there any way a vote of no confidence can be called or is the party with the majority in Congress all powerful?
is there any way a vote of no confidence can be called or is the party with the majority in Congress all powerful?
It needs a majority in the House of representatives to call for impeachment and then a 2/3rds majority in the Senate.

Impeachment is one way to get rid of a president. The other way is for the VP to ask the cabinet to declare the President unable to fulfill his duties.
If he's impeached or they invoke the 25th does Vance just take over automatically? I'm not sure removing Trump solves the deeper problem.

So much for checks and balances.
This is the order of succession (if you watched the reboot of Battlestar Galactica from 20 years ago, the Secretary of Education became the President after everyone else was killed by the cylons and was mocked by the military leaders as a "schoolteacher".)
If Trump was actually impeached, Vance would become President, unless he was also impeached. There's a very strong likelihood that Republicans will lose big in the mid-term elections in November and Hakeem S. Jeffries will become Speaker of the House. He will be under huge pressure to open impeachment hearings on Trump, but conviction in the Senate would require a big block of Republicans to vote to convict. They might do that if Vance was going to be become President, but no way would they vote to convict both Trump and Vance if a Democrat was next in line. It might be possible for Democrats to do a deal to elect Chuck Grassley as speaker in a deal to replace Trump and Vance, but that's getting pretty far fetched.

That’s a lot to ask, 18 clean shots?, what happens when we get to 19?
They’ve collectively caused the deaths of untold thousands around the world with their cuts to aid and support for despotic regimes such as Israel, so can we return to 1814 then ?
oh get off your high horse with your inane cliched fake moral smugness.
Given DJT and ICE's approach and attitude to people from other countries, the World Cup in 2026 and Olympics in 2028 are going to be interesting for the US to host. Elite athletics in the stadiums and Squid Games outside. Social media have a lot of people suggesting the US is not safe, or fit to host these events. I'm sort of agreeing....

I’d not hold out much hope for impeachment, it’s not like he hasn’t been impeached before for oh yeah attempting a self-coup to overturn results.
I don't see them getting rid of him quite yet, they’ll just start editing his daily show with deep fakes when he gets too much of a liability to be live streamed 🙂
As said Trump going may be too late, they’ve already gone down the rabbit hole.
He has now boasted that the only thing that can stop him is his own moral judgment, which is looking all too true.

Oddly enough I was wondering earlier this morning if any footballers had the moral courage to announce they would not be prepared to play in the US in the current environment. Although it shows how far we have sunk to hope that footballers might display the moral courage our political leaders are failing at.

The USA has totally lost it and I just don't see the last 12mths being forgotten for decades.
I'm still trying to understand what type of man would hit a random woman in the face - let alone shoot her in face .. 3 times!!!
In a civilised country the person doing so would be arrested immediately and looking at life or death penalty; it's an act of a psychopath. And also only a psychopath then tries to gaslight the incident to paint the victim as a terrorist.
That thought had crossed my mind, also the one that the 1936 Olympics was held under broadly similar circumstances.
It's a really tough call, athletes have a very limited lifespan and will already be planning their training to peak for LA28 Olympics; in football similar plus some sides qualify once in a blue moon and it would take a very strong moral stance to forego what might be your only chance to play at a World Cup. Of course FIFA will put out loads of edicts about no political sloganing, but I wouldn't be surprised to see players in undershirts with appropriate messaging on them, and if this is still happening in 2028 more Jesse Owens behaviour on podiums.
I know people are losing their lives and liberties over this and some will say that playing games is nowhere near as important, and they're right of course. But it would take a huge moral stance for an individual to say they won't go, far more than me saying I don't fancy a US holiday, I can go to loads of other places. Too late for WC, but I do wonder if an alternative Olympics could be a possibility if the US really isolates itself?
Just back from a week in Berlin. Beautiful city by the way, and well worth a trip. Whilst sampling the culinary delights and experiencing the craziest new year's eve EVER, we also took the time to take in some of the Nazi-era and cold war exhibitions / tours. The parallels with present day Uninvited States of America and 1930s Germany are positively terrifying.

If you'd seen a pro-Palestine demo you could have saved yourself the trouble of going to a museum and witnessed Nazi-style behaviour at first hand.

I think if the US makes a move on another country, especially Greenland, then we are into the realms of organised sanctions and boycotts. I understand the impact it may have on footballers and Olympians, but as it stands I can see more individual protests at the events rather than anyone taking the moral stance and not going.
Yeah, teams taking the knee at every match wearing rainbow armbands etc may be better than a boycott
i expect fifa would ban it, which would make it an even more powerful symbol if any individuals or teams are willing to do so
He has now boasted that the only thing that can stop him is his own moral judgment, which is looking all too true.
Trouble is we know his moral judgement, ooh a pornstar , I’ll have some of that pussy, get the NDA.
The giggle is that Cohen took the Jailtime for that.

I think the US is going at a slower pace, at the moment.
Hitler sort of nobbled all free speech and rights of assembly by declaring a state of emergency straight off the bat.
I do think they are heading down that hole with all the rhetoric used, it’s hard to see if they draw back from the edge or just go for it.
Theres a lot of articles being produced on Trumps plans for venezuala, greenland, ukraine etc etc His defenders coming up with all kinds of excuses and justifications....
He's not a 4D chess grand master- hes a deluded demntia case who just careens from one crazy idea to the next, his handlers have some limited ability to influence him, but he's just making everything up as he goes along
I've been watching some of his rants, sorry, press conferences and one thing that stuck out to me waas how the right side of his face seems a significant amount less mobile than the left side. I know that there is already a theory running round about him having a stroke, but this is the first time I have actually seen it and thought it was likely.
As opposed to _just_ cognitive decline/dementia that is.
I do wonder if he knows that he doesn't have long left, and wants to write himself into the history books so badly he doesn't give a **** if he burns the world trying.
I think when people read about in the future history books they’ll be going wtf was wrong with people indulging a demented loony like that.
Living in the history you don’t notice so much.
Of course it may be all be all “Under His Eye” then “ 🙂
That bus stop ad would be even better if it's on Stop C.
Stop J is a couple of blocks away.

crazy thing is that America was always about its checks and balances on the president, but his takeover of the supreme court and the complete supplication of Congress has taken that away

One thing that has become crystal clear since 2008 is that western democracy was largely built in sand, and that's not just the US
Politics has been bought by the superwealthy, it has been chipped away at for decades to expose its weakness, and now they are completely owned by the oligarchs. Any leader with a shred of moral fibre and a belief in democracy would end the current financing model that gives the oligarchs and corporations control of political offerings way before the public get to vote on the limited choices they allow.
Non of the major parties even talk about it, never mind offer a change or a solution, which shows exactly who they work for, and it isn't us.
Non of the major parties even talk about it, never mind offer a change or a solution, which shows exactly who they work for, and it isn't us.
This is what I’ve said for 20+ years. The majority of Politicians, and certainly those at the top are not there to do good, if they do some good, it’s a by-product of their main aim of getting rich and keeping their friends rich. If people knew the corruption going on, because thats what it is when they accept gifts/hospitality from people, then you would think there would be an outcry, but most people dont give a stuff , so the Politicians get away with it. Keir Starmer shit on his own doorstep when he accepted £60k of clothing when he was elected. WTF needs £60k of clothing, and if you did receive it, would you think there were no strings attached to it?
Trump has taken this to a new level, openly taking bribes, and openly rewarding those who give him those gifts and adulation. It made me feel sick when Starmer was up his arse last year, rather than it being the only thing he could do in the circumstances, I think he actually believed what he was doing was the thing to do, being subservient to the orange gibbon, rather than acting the part while Trump was there, and hating doing it.
wow i wonder if he knows hes going to die soon and is desperate to get a nobel prize before its too late

I wonder what king Charles thinks, and if a withdrawal of the 2nd state visit invitation should be on the cards.
Going back to what someone said about how the media legitimise Trumps and the far rights message by just regurgitating their claims as the headlines.
The main story when I looked at the BC this morning was..
Trump says US needs to 'own' Greenland to prevent Russia and China from taking it
Not, "Trump repeats dangerous lie again" or "The US now the number 1 threat to world peace" "Trump threatens Greenland and Europe again" or a host of other headlines that would much more accurately describe his lies.
But worst than that even was the 2nd most watched video was..
Does the US have the right to take over Greenland?
And event though the report quickly says NO, the fact that it even asks the question in the headline legitimises the question, especially if you don't watch the video (I rarely watch video reports on news websites) it plants the question in the head of people browsing the site. What was wrong with just giving it the title, "The US has no right to Greenland".. this is why.
I also see that south Africa is in a joint military exercise with Russia, China and Iran.
Well done Trump for pushing another country into opposition. Helped of course by supplicant Starmer, slashing foreign aid at Trump's bequest. It was always clear that any "soft power" gap was going to be filled by someone else, it has been clear for a couple of decades what Russia and China were doing on the African continent, but the morons are far too thick to see the advantage of strong friendships with developing countries and decided to leave them an empty playing field..
A few years ago I was watching a documentary series about the rise of facism, Rise of the Nazis. I posted about the parallels between 1930s Germany and what was happening with the likes of Johnson and Trump and their attitude to post truth and disregard of laws.
I was told in no uncertain terms to calm down and stop being hysterical. There was no connection between the two. Oh, how times have changed.
Not a big news item today but interesting in harking back to a couple of pages ago and the practicality of boycotting US online services.
Its a threat that runs both ways - what would you do if those services boycott you?
One of Trumps latests tantrums is lashing out at the International Criminal Court over the court investigating US war crimes in Afganistan and their arrest warrant for Netanyahu. The State Dept has enacted sanctions on four ICC Judges.
This judges now can't use any credit cards / bank accounts that use SWIFT, their amazon and google accounts have all been closed - they can't pay their Utility bills, subscriptions, book hotels, flights. Non of them are residents or citizens of the US. They've also not actually been tried or convicted of anything
The Court itself is now having to try and move all it records and data away from any American owned services, not least to try and protect the finances of 1100 people on their payroll and to prevent the courts funds from its 125 member states from being blocked.
But - theres also the threat now that every service and account the court moves to a new provider also put that new provider in the cross hairs for sanctions too - so with every new agreement they're having to ask that bank or service provider 'what will you do when the US comes for you?'
Going back to what someone said about how the media legitimise Trumps and the far rights message by just regurgitating their claims as the headlines.
This is so true – as you say, the BBC headline is "Trump says US needs to 'own' Greenland to prevent Russia and China from taking it", whereas the Guardian headline for the same story is "Trump ramps up Greenland threats and says US will intervene ‘whether they like it or not".
I also see that south Africa is in a joint military exercise with Russia, China and Iran.

SA ANC party has been involved with Russia for more than 30 years. President Cyril Ramaphosa is ANC and is old enough (bn 1952) to remember the support given by Russia in the run up to the current SA Constitution of 1996-97.
SA has been involved in joint military exercises with Russia and China before President Trump, most recently in 2023, and was also allegedly supplying weapons to Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
In September 2025 SA cancelled a joint military exercise with Russia because they were also hosting the G20 and didn't want any states to refuse to attend
But - threes also the threat now that every service and account the court moves to a new provider also put that new provider in the cross hairs for sanctions too - so with every new agreement they're having to ask that bank or service provider 'what will you do when the US comes for you?'
Interesting on that, I was one of the people talking about decreasing my US services footprint. In the past few days I have changed my emails address for important accounts, banking and official stuff etc. From google to Telekom (who have European datacentres for their backend cloud services) It will take much longer to extract myself from google mail completely.
In the coming week I will be investigating alternative authenticators to move away from google authenticator, I believe openOTP is one that is European based, but their backend reliance matters also and I don't know about that yet.
I also need to do the same for password management.
If US tech services are going to be a (perhaps) likely weapon used against Europe, I would at least prefer not to have important life essentials reliant on them from my perspective, accepting there is not much I can do if banks and Government services are less prepared.

This might have been posted already, but this is a useful read:
I've made a couple of basically token changes at this point with browser and search engine. For me the ones that are harder to extricate yourself from are Google suite and WhatsApp. Google is doable I believe, mailbox.org has a guide on how you can do it but it's hard to get away from WhatsApp. And I haven't cancelled my Netflix etc. subscriptions yet.

It's like a lot of Trump's pronouncements; there's a tiny grain of truth in there somewhere.
Greenland could become independent of Denmark in a short time frame and there isn't a guarantee that the US, Denmark or anyone else would continue to have a lease. I guess that an independent Greenland wouldn't be a NATO member either
That isn't a justification for invasion and I don't believe that the US military would back him anyway. It also means that the "destruction of NATO" narrative only applies if Denmark retains control of Greenland.
The biggest threat is to the "rules-based" world order, which is what China and Russia will be looking at for their regional ambitions.
The bottom line is that an independent Greenland must only be retained through trade agreements, lease contracts (the "rules-based" bit) and NATO-membership.
That way the US doesn't need to talk about "ownership", "invasion" and any of the other nonsensical stuff; the problem is that Trump doesn't have a sense of diplomacy, he just "wants"
