It's a very thin line with that expression as it can be interpreted both ways. 🙂

Only by an idiot like Trump.
Who in reality is so unpopular he has had to start trolling outside the USA

Meanwhile in the mess that is the White House it's Comey week
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/05/us/politics/trump-will-not-block-comey-from-testifying-white-house-says.html
and then he is sabotaging his own Supreme Court Challenge

WASHINGTON — President Trump has excellent lawyers. They have a challenging client.

In a series of Twitter posts Monday morning, Mr. Trump may have irretrievably undermined his lawyers’ efforts to persuade the Supreme Court to reinstate his executive order limiting travel from six predominantly Muslim countries, according to legal experts.

Saying he preferred “the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version” he had issued in March, Mr. Trump attacked both the Justice Department and the federal courts.

There is a reason lawyers generally insist that their clients remain quiet while their cases move forward, said Josh Blackman, a professor at South Texas College of Law in Houston.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/05/us/politics/trump-travel-ban.html

Such a special kind of idiot, one who probably sticks to the we don't need experts chant on his way to court again.

'Alarmed' just does not fit in the entire statement. Just does not work.

Are you now saying Trump was merely criticising Khan's command of grammar??
I thought it was about contradicting the police?

He already mentioned 'calm and vigilant' which is already clear but he spoiled it by saying " ... no reason to be alarmed ..."

No actually what he said made perfect sense. Nothing was "spoiled" until some orange-faced buffoon tried take it completely out of context.

You can do that with any phrase if you choose to completely ignore the context. i.e. Trump could equally have said: "London mayor says terrorist attack by his fellow Muslims was 'a consequence of our planning, our preparation'. He's clearly in on it. Bigly sad." - that doesn't make it true!

Glad to see that this particular sheltered workshop is still running, although I fear it's subject is beyond help.

context
noun
synonyms: circumstances, conditions, surroundings, factors, state of affairs;
the parts of something written or spoken that immediately precede and follow a word or passage and clarify its meaning.

Here you go Chewkw, I'll spell it out for you:

The "there is no reason to be alarmed by this" statement was in the context of the preceding sentence:

"You will see an increased police presence today, including armed officers and uniformed officers"

Perhaps you can only process one sentence at a time? If we replace the full stop with a comma, does this help you to understand?

"You will see an increased police presence today, including armed officers and uniformed officers, there is no reason to be alarmed by this."

of course, it's possible that you understand perfectly.... but you're just choosing to appear stupid?

edit: 😆 😆 😆
wrong choice of words.

We have finally found chewy's area of expertise.

I'm still not sure why anybody is bothering to try and engage him in intelligent discussion. Though he has admittedly sunk to a new low with his support of Trump being a total dick in attempting to make political capital out a terrorist incident.

To divert slightly.... do we think Mr Trump is enjoying being president?

From where I'm sitting - he's finding the whole thing baffling, frustrating and enormously stressful.

As damaging it is to have him in office, it does bring me some satisfaction to see that he's hating every minute of it.

Home life - No
Trip to the middle east to meet a family run firm of dictators - loved it, red carpets, treated like a king, any tough questions just glance at a sword etc.
Europe - Hated it, was probably made to feel like a 6 year old in discussions and retaliated with a flounce/tanti over Paris Climate deal.

[s]This Week[/s] Yet another week of problems with Comey on the stand, more questions about who did or said what and little movement on any of his "policy" goals. Expect a couple of attempts to use something from the House of Cards Season 5 playbook only to be called on it.

I'm a details-oriented person

bahahahahahahahahaha.....no.

Unfortunately (for him), his enormous ego and low IQ make him incredibly easy to wind-up. By forcing him into the detail, he's continually made to look stupid.... which (to him) is the worst thing in the world.

I have predicted a mega-flounce, but I'm wondering whether a stroke, or some sort of (further) breakdown is more likely?

Although, from her expression, it wouldn't surprise me if Meliana did him in.

I think he probably thinks it's worth it to ensure his legacy. It perhaps depends how many yes men and women he has around him, if he realises deep down how poorly he is viewed at home and abroad I think he'll have a hard time thinking it's worth it. I doubt he really has that level of self awareness so on balance it might be awesome apart from a few 'unexplained' critics.

Have you ever worked with someone who has NPD? I had never heard the term but once had the misfortune of being in a business partnership with one. It's how I eventually learned about the disorder and I learned over time that they don't function like regular humans. I recognise them almost instantly now. They do not/cannot reflect upon themselves, at least not any meaningful way. It really is the strangest and most disorientating thing to witness someone who lives a lie to such a degree. They look in a mirror and see a shining champion, when in reality they are this vain, slimy, ruthless, deluded, lying, manipulative, envy-bound, puerile, chauvinistic and non-empathic tragedy of a human-being. Empty husks, like acquistive robots filling up their coffers and (distorted) self-images by any means necessary.

Imagine a hall of mirrors which rather than distorting one's reflection in an ugly fashion, instead makes you look beautiful, fearless, 'dangerous to fools', and perfect. And any fool that says otherwise is just sad. So sad. And jealous.

They are the living walking version of the old Bible and Quran trick - ie if you say anything bad about it proves that the The Word is true. If you say anything bad about The Donald, it proves that The Donald is beautiful. The most beautiful.

President is a perfect job for someone with NPD! Unlimited resources and the ability to surround self with sycophantic 'narcissistic supply' bots. Which is just as well, because IME they need 'concealer' for everything.

Maybe that is Trump's problem too? Sadiq's statement was well over the 140 character limit that Trump can cope with. 😀

I see he doubled-down by bitching that context (i.e. all the other words and meaning around the five he selected) is a "Pathetic excuse" and that "MSM is working hard to sell it!".

Only Trump could claim that publishing Sadiq's full statement is an MSM/fakenews plot. 😐

In other news, I see he is also now saying it is a "TRAVEL BAN" after all.

I daresay there is a significant proportion of the population that, when Donald Dreck visits, would be likely to "demonstrate" along the motorcade route...

Imagine the effect on his fragile persona if, instead of turning up and doing a lot of shouting, everybody just simply ignored it.

There he is, getting carriaged up the Mall and behind the crush barriers... nobody.

Just the occasional drifting tumbleweed bundle... 😈

Far better that we ALL go to watch the parade, but as he comes past, everyone turns their back to his cavalcade and just stands silently, facing away........

A huge crowd, all backs to him should get the point across in a rather difficult to miss manner!

bigblackshed

Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Which, also nicely sums up Trumps entire Presidency too!

Unfortunately, Trumps brand of Playground Politics (TM) brings everything down to the lowest common denominator, and completely ignores what is actually important in favour of petty point winning and trying to be clever (but only demonstrating just how stupid those politics are)

Lets face it, anyone with the IQ exceeding that of a radish can easily work out what Sadiq Kahn meant by his statement, no matter what the EXACT words he used to make that statement. Only an imbecile (or self obsessed narcissist) would worry about the punctuation, the exact order of the words, or if Kahn should have used a slightly different spelling, layout or form of some of the words.

Imagine the following sign:

"DANGER: MAN EATING SHARKS - NO SWIMMING"

It should be quite, quite clear what that sign is for, and what information it is telling the reader, and why.

However, muppets like Trump, Gorka and most of Trumps self grandiose team of swamp drainers (and our own Chewy as well ;-), will no doubt moan on about how they have never seen a man eating a shark in that pool beyond that sign and hence it's quite safe to swim in it..... In an effort to try to look clever they demonstrate quite clearly that they are stupid.

Trump is every international stereotype of a rude, classless, overweight, bozo American distilled to its essence, poured into an orange meat sack, topped with a bad comb-over and given a Twitter account and the (formerly) most important leadership position in the world.

That Chicago Tribune article is just excellent!

Imagine the following sign:

"DANGER: MAN EATING SHARKS - NO SWIMMING"

It should be quite, quite clear what that sign is for, and what information it is telling the reader, and why.

I don't have to imagine it.
On the beach at Brean and Burnham-on-Sea are big signs, saying quite clearly and unequivocally:
Warning
Soft sand and mud - Danger of sinking
Yet around two hundred times a year or so, a hovercraft has to go out and attend to people who don't think the words apply to them, or their cars, and walk out towards the sea a mile away when the tides out, thinking that mud that will trap and drown a five year old girl will allow them to walk or drive on it.
Clearly the collective version of closing your eyes, and sticking your fingers in your ears, going "la la la la la la la la la..."
It would be pathetic , if it didn't risk so many other people who go to help.
🙄

ust to remove doubt (though it is Spicer speaking), GrahamS...

In one sentence Tuesday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer just eliminated any doubt you may have about whether the media should pay attention to President Trump's tweets.

“The president is the president of the United States, so they are considered official statements by the president of the United States,” he said in response to a reporter's question.
