My ma has given me a slow cooker when she cleared out the loft. So does anyone use one.? If so apart from the obvious stew what else can be cooked.?

casserole, soup, curry, stew, old fashioned puddings, yumyumyum.
So many things taste better when they're cooked slowly.
Slow food rules.

Yep, mad for it!

My fave is a curry made using shin of beef. Cooked for 8hrs or so it simply melts in the mouth!

Yep in fact there's a Moroccan lamb tagine cooking in mine as we speak. Really easy to use, just bung the ingredients in before going to work or an all day ride and come back to find a delicious meal. All the nutrients stay in the dish too.

I love my slow cooker.

Currys, soups, stews, cassroles all yum.

What could be better than coming in from a longish ride during the cold months ( nearly all year then) and you're hungry. Just pull up a plate and serve it up.

If using meat I brown it off first and another tip is always put hot liquid in first, don't start the food off cold.

Bunny, I've put frozen lamb in to mine, along with everything else cold. Leave it on all day then, as you say, come back and pull up a plate!

My fave recipe (as requested!)

Shin of beef, in large(ish) cubes. Leave some fat on, but decently trimmed.
Tin of chopped tomato
Pataks Madras paste
Chopped onion
Chopped garlic
Beef stock cube (optional)

Cook for c.8hrs.

What brand of cooker are you all using? we brought one last year with the idea of coming home to great warms stews in mind but after 2 cold stews and 2 replacement cookers we gave up, this link is making me think of giving it another go

spanish chicken:

INGREDIENTS
75ml/2fl oz red wine (optional)
1 tbsp olive oil
3 garlic cloves, sliced
2 anchovy fillets, chopped
400g can chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp capers, drained
8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1 rosemary sprig, leaves finely chopped
1 red onion, finely sliced
salt and freshly ground black pepper
METHOD
1. Heat half the oil in a non-stick pan, then brown the chicken all over. Add half the chopped rosemary, stir to coat, then set aside on a plate.
2. In the same pan, heat the rest of the oil, then gently cook the onion for about five minutes until soft. Add the garlic, anchovies and remaining rosemary, then fry for a few minutes more until fragrant.
3. Pour in the tomatoes and capers with the wine, if using, or 75ml water if not. Bring to the boil, then return the chicken pieces to the pan. Cover and cook for 20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. Season and serve with a crisp green salad and crusty bread.

forgot to add, when it's all together put it in the slow cooker instead of the pan and leave it on low-medium for as long as you want
