I chipped a small bit off a tooth the other day, it's been annoying me (sharp on the tongue) but not painful, then at lunch today I bit something that chipped off a large section of the same tooth. Again no pain and it's one of the more rearward teeth so doesn't show when I smile.

Just rung the place I believed I was registered to and was told they had no record of me (it's been about 18months since my last checkup). Local NHS dental access centre has booked me in for the 4th May, which is a fair old wait. But they have an 'emergency' service where you can ring at 9am and book in for the same/next day if I'm in pain....

Question is do I fake the pain and get it done or hold on and wait my turn?

No pain at all?

It's not an emergency in any sense then is it...they'll soon work this out and you may get sent out the door.

Wait your turn if you're not in pain. You'd be complaining if you really needed emergency treatment and some chancer was taking up your emergency appointment

In any event I've booked a check up today - 6 May, which is about average!

of course not have you had toothache/abscess - would you wish to deny someone treatment who was in real acute pain /agony. Do the right thing and wait and let someone who is suffering be released from their pain.

So far no pain... although I've not eaten or been out in the cold since either so that may be a bit premature!

Aye, just go in and maybe they'll extract it straight away for you.

A bit chipped off the filling on my front tooth last night whilst on MTB and chewing gum. I started to crunch something and assumed some grit had flown in from the front wheel, but upon gobbing out said gum, I noticed part of the tooth(filling) was away.
Phoned this morning and got it fixed this pm 8)

See if you have a local dental school?

You're bloody lucky to be taken in at all by NHS. I tried with my (ex) dentist after a gap, and they would only sign me up again if I had all problems fixed first on their private service (=£££). Only then would they put me back on their NHS books (=more £££ from government).

I've never heard of a poor dentist...

My local practise is run by ADP who are a big chain: http://www.adp-dental.com/index.html I get appointments within a few days of phoning up, could be worth seeing if they've any places near you.
