One for the graphic designers.
Whats the difference between these.
If something has a greyish look and then turns yellow is this a change in Hue? Tone or Colour?
Cheers for any help.
hue and colour are the same thing.
tone is how bright it is
you've not mentioned saturation. Perhaps that is what changed?
Carpet.
Went in to buy some carpet, asked for a match to one bought previously, they ordered it when it arrived its yellowish whilst the the one we wanted to match it to is greyish. Im calling it a different colour / hue, they say it is a different tone.
Grey to yellow does not a tonal variation make?
'Tone' relates to how light or dark it is. In photography, the term 'tonal range' relates to film's ability ot reproduce levels of light or dark tones.
But this gets confused; people refer to 'skin tone', although this is not really correct, unless you are talking about the light or darkness of a person's skin.
The carpet shop are talking shite. Go and own them with some Bombers.
And get them to match the colour of yer carpet propply.
Broadly speaking... Tone is lightness. Hue is a position on the spectrum. Saturation is the strength of the hue. Colour is the combination of the three.
Grey to yellow is not a tonal variation.
Got an old pair of 66's ready to go. Nice and weighty.
Brilliant explanation by Bez.
